Midlake

I see Midlake have announced three shows in June, starting Monday 28th June.

I really hope this means they are playing Glastonbury. I had tickets to see them in London the other week and didnt make it, would you believe I started to leave Oxford only to end up turning back because of a snow storm!

And if Band of Horses play as well I'll happily stroke my non existent beard all afternoon long, no, thats not a euphamism before naybody asks!

Lovely stuff waveydavey. I hope you are right on both counts. I've never managed to see Midlake so would welcome their presence. Park stage would be my guess.

As for band of horse, I am seeing them in april so all is good in my world, but I'm sure someone on here gave a reason why they are unlikely to be playing glasto. Cant remember the reason now, maybe they are touring america in june. I forget.

Fingers crossed for both though!

Sounds like you were lucky enough to get tickets for the Koko show for Band of Horses? Missed that but have got tickets for The Roundhouse show in June. Very keen to hear what the new album will be like.

Struggling a little with the new Midlake record to be honest but I'm sure once I'm familiar with it all will be fine.

Courage of others is def a grower after a few listens, Van Occupanther is more imediate. Both very good albums and I'm really happy that it looks like they might play :-)

I've don't know any of band of horses stuff, i shall see what youtube has to offer.

Yep, koko for me. I am a big fan of that venue (there is a good pub nearby that does nice ale and nice thai food which is a bonus) but the roundhouse has great sound so you havent missed out there thats for sure. I'm hoping the new album will be more of the same to be honest, as boring as that sounds!

I agree re: midlake. Trials of van... is preferable to me but in fairness I havent given courage.. much of a listen yet.

Langers - I think you'd like The Trials of Van Occupanther.

Damn I havent got a clue of the name, but it's only about 1 minute (if that) down from koko (on the same side of the road) heading towards camden station. Think it's the first boozer you come to.

I seem to recall they had St Austells Tribute on tap (which is a real favourite of mine), and a proper Thai lady cooking the food so it was all good stuff (and cheap!). Not the most wonderful pub in the world but the ale was good, the food was good so I was happy

Just an update, Midlake are definitely back over this side of the Atlantic before Glasto, confirmed for a gig in Cork on the Friday of Glasto (25th June), so together with their confirmation for Liverpool on the Monday, I'd say it improves their chances of being in the UK at the right time!....

Edit: Actually, the other bands playing that gig with them on the friday are Grizzly Bear, Camera Obscura and Villagers...all of which would be welcome additions!

WOuld be a good addition, saw them in late 2006 touring the first album. They were good, proficient, but entirely lacking stage presence, even in a small venue like Academy 3 in Manchester. Hopefully they've improved a bit. New album's very good IMHO

Having seen them on the new tour, I still find them a bit charisma free live. The new album is pretty good, but only pretty good, and a lot of it's quite samey and it doesn't really translate into the most dynamic live experience. It seemed like every song started with either a flute solo or fluet duet.

What would you recommend from their back catalogue, Steve?

I have their latest album - it's top. :P

Get the previous album "The Trials of Van Occupanther" - just brilliant. Can't wait to hear those harmonies live
