The People obviously wanted an X-Factor contestant to get the number one spot the past few years, but obviously they don't count the needs of The People when it contradicts their blinkered views on the world.

They speak like the Christmas Top 40 is some sort of dictatorship with Fuhrer Cowell running the show, yet the whole point of this campaign is to stop another artist from getting to number one. Un-democratic, hypocritical, not to mention plain childish.

People keep saying "Power to the people" and stuff like that.. but imo the power has always been with the people, it's just that people don't believe they have it.

I love RATM too - have done right from vinyl days - however I totally disagree - for the first time in five years I listened to the radio to hear who was number one. The fact they got to number one shows the slumbering majority got interested and changed the outcome.

Ok they were 25/1 when i put my money down and that might have something to do with my jubilation, but this also has to do with people power. It's a cause which ignited people's interest - are you going to complain as bitterly if (perish the thought) the sleeping majority able to vote got interested in politics and voted, or the sleeping majority took to the streets to march on some burning issue.

As it stands now they are saying you can pick next year's protest song, so you can sit there and moan or suggest someone and just maybe they'll top the charts next year and someone can get all antzy on a message forum about festivals about the record you picked.

The power has always been with the people, hence why the X-Factor singles got to number one, because the people chose those songs as their christmas number ones.

I dislike the X-Factor as much as the next person with taste, but it's stupid how the RATM campaigners haven't realised this.
