I only have mine there for emergencies, as I tend to rely on SMS which enters another time zone at Glasto anyway, thus rendering it pretty much useless.

it used to be only turned on each night to call the daughter to say,

"hi we're having a great time, shame you aren't here"

But now she comes too so it's only for saying,

"Damn, where the hell are you? If you weren't here I wouldn't be stuck here for hours waiting for you, when you've clearly gone off to do your own thing, have a great time, and forget you were supposed to meet me. You've even turned your phone off so I can't contact you to let you know I'm not wasting another half an hour as I want to bimble about."

I need mine, as I'm so hugely popular and everyone wants to meet me. I can't take a secretary with me, so a phone will have to do.

I do look forward to the annual "Where are you? We're by the flag/mixing desk/big tree/ice cream van/drop the debt bus" conversations. They're funny.

Apparently signal from O2 last year was poor mainly because iPhones take up more network bandwidth and have stronger signal than normal phones so anyone with an iPhone would have had less problems than those with, say, a Nokia. Everyone with an iPhone who I was with had signal all weekend but I was screwed. We did it the old way by saying where we we going and arranging to meet by the bar on the hour if anyone wondered off.

It was no surprise that everyone I knew on Orange had signal all weekend either. For next year I've bought an Orange PAYG so I can get half price cinema all year and signal at Glastonbury. Shite phone but that's fine because my last phone suffered a death at the hands of a leaking bottle of vodka (only 2 months into it's contract and with no insurance!).

"Same I've always had no trouble with virgin!"

Don't you find you have to wine and dine them, and then they expect you to love them forever?

Mine worked fine on Orange, but then Orange's coverage is pretty good at Glasto.

I only used it a couple of times though once we got there (was very handy for the 9 hour journey though!), Glasto is a holiday for me.

This could be a problem for me as didn't really use the phone last year but this year I'm taking the kids and need to keep in contact with them. I know they'll be alright as they are pretty sensible at 18 and 16 (unless of course they discover the joys of the cider bus) but we are in the campervan and they want to camp. Wife is worried about this.

Last year my iphone on 02 was fine til the wednesday, when it all fell over, and slowly got better until it was fine by about saturday. Wrote the time in every text i sent to someone off site, and they did the same, so we could watch it slowly improving.

That said, my mum told me that she only just got a text i sent at Glasto this year last weekend. Which seems bonkers, and implies there may have been something more than just poor signal going on.

    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
    • Not at all impressed with Polanski saying "noone should be barred from public life" wrt the Tory neo-nazi. I really don't think "no nazis in politics" should be an excessive standard.
