Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck have announced a joint gig to take place at London's O2 Arena next February.

The duo, who played together in Japan earlier this year, will take to the stage at the O2 Arena on February 13 to each play a retrospective set, followed by a joint performance.

Speaking about the gig, Beck said the two "had a blast" playing together in Japan, while Clapton heaped praise on his friend.

"I've always considered to be one of the finest guitar players around," he said. "He's a friend, a great guy, and a truly gifted musician. We had such a fun time in Japan that it seemed natural to play together again."

Although they never played together in The Yardbirds (Beck replaced Clapton in 1965), the two have remained close friends since the '60s.

In that programme The Seven Ages of Rock, there was a bit about Hendrix coming to London to play with Cream, and he got on stage and started to play and Clapton just put his guitar down and walked off stage, 'cos he thought Hendrix was a bit of a pretender but actually was way better than him.

I thought it was funny.

clapton would be good but would only headline and he could do it. however he would cost a bomb his shows are normally £75 + so i cannot really see it

I think it will be a mistake for him to headline; Seen him at the tsunami relief gig in cardiff and it was his blues based mediocre stuff - no cream tracks and no derek and the dominos
