First time & going alone

I've never been to a festival before, and I REALLY REALLY wanna go Glasto next year if I can get a ticket. Trouble is all my mates are either not bothered ( :) lol) or don't wanna pay £185, so looks like I'd be goin it alone

Is this a common thing? Or is it one of those things that's way better when surrounded by your mates?

Thanks

No you should go there are loads of people on here who go by themselves and all camp together i more or less went this year by myself but met some great people who i didn't know before glasto and ended up spending the whole weekend with them and i would go it alone again if i had to and i wouldn't think twice about it plus glastonbury is a very friendly place so don't let having nobody to go with make you miss out on an amazing experience.

Go !

There are plenty of people that go on their own , and plenty of people that go with other halfs or mates

that wish they were on their own.

You have 9 months to get genned up on everything Glastonbury wise, so you have plenty of time.

If you do wnat to get involved with fello e festers I would suggest you putting some info on your personal profile , and then putting yourself forward for the inevitable activites that will be going

on.

Which reminds me , I must make the real ale trail next year :P

;)

Go. Don't let your friends lack of interest stop you from going. That's their loss, don't make it yours!

You'll have an amazing time, meet loads of random people, see what you want to rather than having to make group decisions, I've been 6 times, this year was the first time flying solo and I had as good, if not a better time, than when I've gone with friends in the past. It's a completely difference experience.

Closer to the festival several camps will establish on these boards, not political camps that sneer at each other (though there will be a bit of sneering, it is all forgotten once we meet at the cider bus!), but camps that will be physical at the festival (EG, Camp Funk at Kidney mead, The Red Triangle at penards etc), so if you are "flying solo" keep an eye out and join one of those. Each camp has a different flavour so try and work out which one is to your taste.

I'm in the early stages of planning to go alone myself, so the advice that here I've been reading over the past few days is awesome and very helpful!

I decided today to finally take the plunge to register here to post and say hello.

Most of my friends have never even heard of Glastonbury, much less thought about attending (I live in the US). But, I'm a huge music fan and have wanted since the late 80's to have the the experience of attending it at least once in my life.

I've decided that I'm making it happen in 2010.

I would never miss a festival just because none of my mates were going. I went to Rockness in 07 myself and made some great new friends at the e fest camp. If you didn't go you'd just end up regretting it.

Hello! Awww I feel quite honoured that your first ever post is on my thread ;) lol

I'm new as well and I think this site is great for advice (and for having people on here who are equally mad about festivals!).

Good luck getting tickets tomorrow! ;) ...and make sure you know the time difference if you're in the US because our 9am is not your 9am (I think..) lol

    • It can take around 30-45 mins to walk from the arena back to the transport hub with the crowds, depending on density. Allow even longer in poor conditions. I don't think you'd need to leave Linkin Park early though, you have at least an hour and 20 minutes to walk to transportation. I certainly wouldn't leave early in your shoes, knowing I can just walk to the airport if needs be (2 mile walk and another 30 - 45 min walk depending on your walking speed and conditions.) Maybe just don't linger too long for the toilet / food after Linkin Park have finished.  It will definitely make sense and all just fall into place on the night, don't worry too much and have a great time. The very worst that can happen is a little extra walking to the Airport Skylink bus stop, as those Skylink busses are 100% 24 hour. 🙂  GFS, ICON and ECMWF are ALL in agreement on the latest runs.... After a mildly moist Weds and Thurs, high Pressure building from Friday... Lets just hope they continue to agree... ☀️☀️☀️
