Emily - Book Nile Rodgers & CHIC for 2010

Emily, this time last year I asked you to turn Worthy Farm into Sex Farm for me. You obliged. I wanna use Neil's forum to appeal to you in similar fashion with a band that would grace your field with distinction next summer.

I saw CHIC play Electric Picnic in Ireland last Saturday. Honestly one of the best gigs ive ever, ever seen. Couldnt emphasise this enough.

They were rumoured on here (correct me if I'm wrong Young Neil) for a good while to be playing the summer just gone. The fact they didnt was a MAJOR boo-boo.

Nile Rodgers basically channelled everything I love about funk, soul, R&B, house and hiphop into one 90 minute gig. If he is booked to do something similar next summer at the 40th anniversary his band will go down in history. The man is a visionary.

This is not exhaggeration. They were incredible. Shed a tear etc. :D

Pick up the phone. Send the registered letter. Get it sorted.

That is all.

I saw Nile & Chic at WOMAD last year, and just like you I thought it was fantastic.

After guessing that they might have been seen at Jazzworld this year, I've since found out that Jazzworld did try to book them, but for some reason it didn't come about.

I'd guess that it's likely that they'll have another go next year. Fingers crossed. :D

yeah, gets my vote. And if anyone can pull it off, it's Wooderson.

Got to be honest, this time last year, I thought he was off with the fairies banging on about Spinal Tap, but fair play to the lad, he's called it bang on the bollocks right.

  • 2 months later...

I saw Chic at Sonar in 2007, although, as I was waiting for a mate who'd gone for a wander and had to stand just outside the arena, I didn't get the full impact of their gig. What I saw was incredible though.

Who would have the cheek (geddit) to deny us the chance to hear these total classics at the 40th Birthday celebration?

I say Sunday night at a jam-packed/rip-roaring Jazz World. Grown men like me who should know better singing "We Are Family" at the top of their lungs at Glasto?!? Got to happen.

:P

    • I guess we'll just have to wait until videos of the shows go up, but the fact that the standing is also greyed out still suggests to me that those sections just sold out out before the others and a blue block just be like 3 tickets left, it's still not concrete proof they never went on sale and if they were never on sale why would they not make it even, if 414 wasn't on sale then you'd think 409 wouldn't be either
    • Selfish, but I've done the 2 days I'm there.. i'll try to do the rest through the day but might get beaten to it as it's editable....    https://clashfinder.com/s/ape2026/
    • I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
    • And all (or all but one) of the secret sets repeats though?
    • 1. Coming with my sister (our 4th Sziget together) 2. 3 days (Thursday-Saturday). Would rather do Tuesday-Thursday but not enough AL 😞 3. Wednesday evening  4. Apartment  5. FATM (will be my 10th Florence’s gig) 6. Parcels/Paris Paloma
