Went to bed as it was starting, didn't look too good. I watched the programme before it 'Beatles in record' or something it was called? It was brilliant.

For an earlier poster, Paul Mcartney wasn't a great Bass player, but he was good enough, just like Ringo on drums. But PM could turn his hand to a guitar, piano, and other instruments very well, same as Harrison. Just a few genius's who happened to meet at a fair in Liverpool, Lennon leading them on.

Paul was/is an incredible bass player & from about 1967 onwards Lennon was indifferent to the success or otherwise of the Beatles. Paul led the band from Pepper until they finished.

Paul is the best Beatle sure. If it wasnt for him they wouldnt have split ages before they did.

I don't subscribe to the "shot the wrong Beatle" nonsense for a second, but JWL is my FAVE Beatle though. Just an incredibly complex and unique artist. Paul was his better in many things but just didnt have the depth of character that his mate John possessed.

I think you hugeley underestimate quite how much Lennon and McCartney helped each other with their compositions. There is a reason why the majority of Beatles songs have Lennon/McCartney on them.

A Day In The life was probably one of the best songs ever written. Not on your list thou.

But if you're talking about them individualy remember that both had a huge input to any Beatles song. Harrison in his day wrote some great songs too. Very rarely do 3 songwriters come together in 1 band and produce stuff like that.

aye i know, but was going for main songwriter. you can definitely pick apart a paul tune from a john tune.

and yeah 20 is a tough choice, but its what would fit on a cd. well you could maybe get 24-5 based on what songs you pick.

True. In the early days, you could tell from the content. A song with 'I' in the title was usually John, but a narrative styled song was usually Paul. And also - unless it's Ringo - by the lead vocalist (though Do You Want To Know A Secret? ruins that as George sings it).

I think the reason why I adore A Day In The Life so much is because it has strong elements by John and Paul, as well as being arguably the best produced Beatles song ever IMHO. Incredible track - timeless.

When it comes to the 'pop music' Beatles I Feel Fine is a gem.

A couple of my favourite Glastonbury moments were a few years ago when the Bootleg Beatles played to packed Acoustic Tent, as well as when the Backbeat Beatles (I think they were like the local tribute band) played the same tent on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Not the best Beatles tribute bands I've seen but those moments were perfect.

That song is great! One of the best mixed songs on the album and has one of my favourite lines 'What do you see when you turn out the lights, I can't tell you but I know it's mine'. Awsome.
