Yep I've just returned from V Chelmsford, and Glastonbury knocks the socks off of V.....but I will say I had a great time at V. I got to see a lot of smaller bands, because there was not so much to do and get distracted by :-)

V is all about the music, nothing more.

I watched most of the highlights on TV mainly because there wasn't much on and it did look rather poptastic but the weather looked very nice. I actually thought the 4music coverage was quite good, it went on for about 6 hours straight which offered a good overall picture of the festival.

Shame about the apparent blanking of whole verses in songs though AND they shoulda shown more of The Specials

And it isnt all about the tv highlights either...there is a whole other festival to explore other than the main stages. Circus fields, Greenfields, acoustic field and so on...Babylon is not Glasto in its entirity.

I had been to V chelmsford for the past 7 years but didn't bother goin this year and glad I didn't.

I watched tv highlights.

To say V is just about the music is crazy talk.

The lineup up consisted of ndubz, tinchy stryder, alesha dixon, James Morrison, lemar and many other radio 1 playlist type acts.

It seemed like not alot of effort went into the lineup choice this year and they just chose chav radio music.

I am thinking of returning to V one year but will wait for the lineup announcement.

But you are perfectly correct that GLASTO RULES.

The TV highlights were v v v disappointing and I have to say nothing like the festival I have just returned from !

What I mean about V being about the music, is there is not a lot else to do .. plus there was plenty to choose from apart from 'radio' one music !

Amongst others I caught

King Blues, Vagabond, One EskimO, Bens Brother, Jet, Starsailor, Human Leaue (yes they were awesome), The Enemy, Killers...I didn;t see any of the acts you list above (apart from when I watched the TV coverage when I got home).

I avoided the Dizzee Rascal, N Dubz etc etc ... but each to their own. I found plenty to do and keep amused..... it's just not in the same league as Glastonbury but has it's place

....depends if Branson pulls he's finger out his ass.

Branson is almost nothing to do with V fest and never has been - the event is run by three different and big promoters (at least, outside of V they're that, they use separate companies for their V involvement I think), with those three companies owning 90% of V Festival I believe. As far as I'm aware, Branson has the other 10%, essentially as his payment for the use of the Virgin name.

ooooh don't get me wrong , I had a great time.

And indeed , Human League was fab. And the TV coverage was shite compared to having been there.

My personal pro's on V : lots of lush soft grass to camp on , the Bacardi Tent (fab fab) and I drove there without getting stuck for !!10 hours!! as I did for Glasters :-O

Personal cons on V : way too few toilets (never seen so many people pissing everywhere , even the ladies squatting in full view) , 10 pounds for the setlist ? what's that all about ? , no flags :-(

Love Glastonbury , tents and stages all being one , not to forget the strawberry cider :-)

    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
