Other festivals (similar to Glasto) you would recommend

Looking to do a couple more festivals this year to drive out the Glasto blues. Would like to go somewhere with a decent variety of music and a good atmosphere, and naturally the fewer dickhead louts the better.

When I first went to Beni in 2006 I would have recommended it to anyone, I love Spanish culture and I felt the festival had successfully incorporated this into the festival. However when I went back in 2007 it was over run by English, pissed up louts. I have never been to Leeds but I imagine it was like that. At one point some poor chap was taking a rest/passed out on the grass. Nearly every passer by thought it would be humourous to drop their litter on top of him, including half drank pints, he was literally covered in crap. Incidents like that kind of put me off.

Anyway I digress, any recommendations?

Solfest is great, much smaller (6500 people i think), but definitely a glasto vibe

I went to Latitude straight after Glastonbury and last year and once I got over how small it was 20000 I think, I really enjoyed it. It has that lazy laid back feel. With the spoken word and comedy adding to the music. And always got that ecclectic mix of music

Secret Garden Party is apparently just like a little slice of Glastonbury. Alchemy is new this year and shaping up to be fantastic and for the hardier amongst us there's Thimbleberry.

After terrible post Glastonbury blues last year, we decided to book a few smaller festivals. Shambala was recommended by a couple of younger casualties who stumbled into our camp last year. Unfortunately we were already booked for Leeds so couldn't make it last year but thought it may help with the PGB's this year. Also trying Y Not but wish we were going to Kendal Calling instead that weekend.

Heard good reports about Secret Garden Party and Beautiful Days which could be on the cards next year.

Bingley Festival is also good value if you can get over the fact that there is no camping.

Summer Sundae in leicester always has an excellently diverse music selection that has never disappointed in 4 years, comedy, spoken word and other stuff, a brilliantly friendly atmosphere, very non-corporate, take your own beer policy(though has adequate beer, cider (16 ales and 5 proper ciders last year at £3 or under a pint ) and cocktail provision at non rip off prices too), the friendlies stewards and security, excellently clean and well kept facilities , and a nob head count of about zero (bound to have been one, but I haven't met one in the past 4 years). And you can get from your tent, round all 4 stages and back to your tent in about 20 minutes. And because it's based at de montford hall, you have all the facilities of a city centre a walk away, but dont feel like your in a city centre when you're there. They have a brilliant fringe festival warm up on the thursday too

Truck festival - 10 miles south of Oxford, is a good one and i've been going since it pretty much started.

Its a kinda Glasto feel to it albiet on a very small scale, they've increased capacity this year to 6,000. Acts are mostly local with some big names at night (Ash are headlining Saturday and Supergrass Sunday)

Tickets are a heafty £70 but if you want to save some money grab one off ebay...there are plenty on there.

Bestival or Camp Bestival, both (officialy) sold out for this year, or go European, lots of cheap festivals across the continent and you'll see some cool bands no-one in the UK has ever heard of.

Electric Picnic is definitely the closest I've seen. It's modelled on Glasto in fact except obviously a good bit smaller.
