For all those interested in the side of Glastonbury that is concerned with the creative and the bizarre etc as opposed to the music I would recommend the Port Eliot Festival down in Cornwall. It is on the site of the Elephant Fair from back in the day and run by the people who put the theatre and circus areas together in Glastonbury. It started as a lit fest but has morphed into the most eclectic and marvellous weekend going. And it is very arty with a non arty price tag. Pretty much the only weekend that really matches the Glastonbury spirit mainly because it doesn't try to. where else do you get to chat with Ralph Steadman, Michael Eavis, Arnold Brown and Simon Munnery in the same place?

I love it.

Gonna come back to this thread tonight cos I am wavering...... <_<

....I could exchange Glasto 2010 for Beautiful Days and one other, take less time off work, and be around for my daughter's Birthday for the first time in 4 years. Plus I'd still have Glasto 2011 to look forward to before the fallow year.

Of course I'd miss Glasto immensely including all the efesters contained therein. TV coverage is not the same. So any swap would need a decent Camp Efests attached. But another plus is that I could also drag friends along who will no longer contemplate Glasto (too long for them to camp).

Something to mull over in the next few months until ticket day, but will be back this evening to check which fest comes out top here.

Also, and this has as much to do with the' taking kids to Glasto' thread, I just got back from Camp Bestival with the kids and I have to say it was my favorite festival of the year thus far. For me Glasto is not a place for kids unless you're prepared to confine yourself to certain areas (I will not take mine till they are old enough to look out for themselves).

The venue is immaculate and beautiful with lots of pitching space, the toilets are spotless, the food is great, varied and well priced, the line-up this year was eclectic and great and the kids are well catered for and welcome everywhere and above all else they are safe. In short I took my kids to a festival and felt relaxed all weekend (and still got in some great music!)

Also for the Kate Bush threaders check out Blue Roses. I almost did one after the opening two bars as I wasn't expecting to enjoy it but I did and by the end I was a bit choked. Beautiful, crowd drawing vocals.

A great family alternative to Glasto!

Truck festival - 10 miles south of Oxford, is a good one and i've been going since it pretty much started.

Its a kinda Glasto feel to it albiet on a very small scale, they've increased capacity this year to 6,000. Acts are mostly local with some big names at night (Ash are headlining Saturday and Supergrass Sunday)

Tickets are a heafty £70 but if you want to save some money grab one off ebay...there are plenty on there.

    • I honestly didn't know it had, I still thought it was where the view overlooked the lake and view.   I think my decision not to attend this year at least was justified. Biffy was the big draw but after Finsbury I knew they wouldn't play what I want to hear again and well work also got in the way. Believed interesting to hear if Libertines were any good as they were also a pull but Sunday did nothing for me really with all my acts on Friday and Saturday.

    • Knocked Loose have been announced for Wacken, that's them at Bloodstock as well   I think they'd headline over Malev
    • I hate tradmill running with a passion lol. Yeah the 1km reps are the one along with hill reps. That's what I did last time.  It's very a very hot summer and job circumstances to stay at the consistent level I was for the marathon earlier in the year. I've got a full set of the main distance new PBs this year. 10k isn't a problem most days but even today I went out deciding just over 5 mile was enough between recovery cruise and steady.
    • There is also a solid argument from Seventeen already that not enough people actually care if they book them also.
