Other festivals (similar to Glasto) you would recommend

Solfest and Bearded Theory have everything you could want in a festival but on a much much smaller scale, also going to Beautiful Days in August, I've heard lots of people say its their favourite festival.

I also fancy Green Man, but none of my mates are up for all that folky stuff.

Green Man. Green Man. it's not as undilutedly folky as you might think. plenty of allsorts for everyone. the most lovely, lovely vibe! alot of beards, but not loads of beard stroking. good times! beautiful setting! happy people! glorious fun!

I would recommend Lowlands Festival in The Netherlands, which in fact is inspired on Glastonbury. But, then a well organised version in terms of bathrooms, showers etcetera. It's very well known for it's atmosphere and still big and small bands play. Also, it's in August, so Glasto beginning of summer and Lowlands to close the summer. I went to Shambala last year which is a brilliant low-key festival that does an awesome fancy dress parade. It has the same kind of vibe as Glasto but there's more world music and crafty things going on. Not going this year but would definitely recommend it.

I went to see Fairport Convention at Glasto and they spent half their time talking about their own festival Cropready, which other people tell me is quite good, anyone know anything about it? It seems as though it would be quite folky with FC in charge!

Try Standon Calling - it's very small so you avoid standard festival louts... there are some really great bands playing this year...also have a look at this festival guide ... should give you a decent idea of where to go..

Useful thread for someone who will be having to get his Glasto fix outside of Worthy Farm next year

I'm seriously tempted to haul myself up to Green Man, and the costs should work out about the same if not a tiny bit less.

Alternatively, I may do BD as its closer (and I promised I would go this year)

To get the glasto blues out my system ive just done 2000trees and Ynot festival next week for a grand price of £75 total which is a bargain for 5 days of music and good lineups aswell.
