The JFK conspiracy is my favourite one, I Fully believe there was some dodgy stuff going down! On another note the film JFK is fantastic, Recommended to anyone who is into Conspiracies!

Also believe 9/11 was commited by the US, My opinion of course!

That Hulk Hogan picture posted on the last page is hilarious, haha bumped!

The JFK one, I think, is pritty simple. JFK and Bobby Kennerdy were both mafia busters. So he gets assassinated and there is a fall guy - Lee Harvey Oswald. Jack Ruby shoots him. But wait, Jack Ruby is a nightclub owner from newyork, not only could you not do his profession in the town he was in without having mafia connections but there is strong non circumstantial evendance that he did.

Some great comedy though................

Never underestimate the ability of the unscrupulous to distort a virtue such as truth and turn it into a valuable weapon, a commodity and a luxury.

The conspiracies being mentioned (Lady Di, JFK) only worry me due to their distractional abilities. They serve as a piece of propaganda to make easily led people believe that this is what a conspiracy theory is.

It's the conspiracy theory of ideology manipulation that I find the most troubling - the idea that conspiracy theories are detachable and unrelatable from ones own life, that conspiracy theories don't, and will never, happen to you. "Silly boy they happen in films, and print, look here they are, detached from you, they're just fantasy and people that believe them are to be classed in the same bracket as evangelical Christians or people that believe in Jedi. Stop watching The Matrix" etc. It makes people dissmissive of the possibility and liklihood of conspracy theories, even when there is empirical evidence to suggest they are actually true.

I'm more concerned with the far cleverer, far more sinister conspiracies that serve to delude people into having faith in one idea or another, and to lose their ability to question things. It's the idea that conspiracy theories involving mass murder or a celebrity are the only ones worth reporting; the idea that conspiracies don't constantly screw with us as a society. That to me, is the most worrying conspiracy theory, because it's not an elite that propagates it, they may sometimes sow the seed and nurse it - but it's up to the rest of us to fall for it, to dismiss the idea that they may be getting royally screwed over - to do so would put a dent in one's pride, to do so would be to realise that all they are is a piece of nothing, that their life is nothing, that their efforts ultimately mean nothing: people are way too proud to realise or even comprehend that.

Oops, sorry, wrong forum.........

Exactly...

And you think that if the USSR thought for two seconds that the US hadn't actually made it to the moon that they wouldn't have pointed it out in a major way? Does the fact that independent bodies and individuals (Patrick Moore for one) were able to track the Apollo 11 command module on route to the moon not come in to it?

Even the trivial stuff can be easily explained, such as the fact that flag 'seemed' to be blowing in the wind etc.

Because Americans told you?

How many people have been on the moon? 12

How many Americans have been on the moon? 12

How many moon landers were from NASA? 12

You don't think anyone else could/would have managed it by now?

I like this. Is this "Pogo's Factoids"?

Are we going to get a new factoid a day?

No because its fairly pointless. The space race was actually a race about nuclear weapons - but put into a manner that citizens could support without having to support a military goal. Going to the moon was just done to out do the USSR - although they obviously realised it was pointless. At the time the USSR and USA were the only two countrys who really had the money, and now interest in the space race has dropped off no one would be able to raise the funds. That said China seem to be keen on it, probably just keeping up with the Joneses so maybe they will or wont find a flag if they make it up there.

The flag blowing in the wind is the least of the worries, how about the film working in those temperatures or getting through the radiation?

That's a very biased military perspective.

The military were supported by general society, corporations and the schools of academia. The idea of going to the moon and the narrative of man developing technology that could one day achieve this was born a good few millenia ago. This idea was manipulated by the military, but that's not the same as saying that they came up with the idea themselves and then spun the people a yarn, as you imply.

I didnt say the idea was manipulated by the military. The reason so much money was poured into the space race was because if you can lift a man into space you can lift a nuclear warhead into space. This is why it was such a problem for the states that the soviets did it first.

I would also contest the idea that it has been a goal for mellenia to travel to the moon. People didn't even understand what the moon was, let alone could comprehend that you could travel to it, even at the beginning of last melleniam.

I know. You implied that they invented the idea and manipulated the people. What I was saying was that the idea was already in existence as a cultural fiction. The military manipulated this in the tactical based space race that you outlined. I was saying that the military manipulated this idea, not you.

Again, contentious. There were a number of vested interests. It's very tabloidesque to pin the rationale of something down to one thing.

I would say pinning it down to the cold war and the space race is not pinning it down to one thing. I dont think it would of, or could of, happened in any other situation. Or in fact if America had put the first man into orbit.

The desire to touch the moon and the stars can be found in the earliest accounts of both eastern and western philosophy and literature.

And because everyone knows they did, and can be independently varified, and the USSR would have known if they were talking bollocks and might have just pointed it out.

Would the Russians have just let it slide if the US didn't land on the moon?

You don't think anyone else could/would have managed it by now?

Whats the point, the Americans have already been there? Who has the money to do this just for the crack?

I'm with Buzz Aldrin on this one:

You gave a solitary reason for the money being poured into the space race. I'd contend that the money was given for a variety of reasons from a variety of vested groups. Hence, you're using the rationale of a very specific perspective (military) and generalising it.

There were a great deal of reasons for the lunar landing.

Independantily varified with cash perhaps? And they may not have known, they could have been dubbed as well. It's interesting that they cancelled the later Appollo missions when the technology advanced which could have shown them up......hmmmmmmmmm

China and Russia want to but can't. You'd think they'd have the technology that America had years and years ago, especially with Russia building top space stations and being more advanced when it comes to space.

I'm with Buzz Aldrin on this one:

Oh dear, an admission of his own guilt perhaps? Couldn't respond to claims so went for violence to "shut them up"??

So you'd be happy to conduct a sensible conversation with someone who lured you to a meeting under false pretences and then proceded to call you a thief, a liar and a coward in a threatening manner?

That bloke is Bart Sibrel and epitimises the sort of loser who needs to believe this sort of thing to give themselves a sense of self worth.

Anyone who beleives that man hasn't landed on the moon is basically a complete f**king idiot.

Anyone who believes that shagging married women won't eventualy end up with getting their faced kick in a bit of an idiot too though.
