Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Go to f**king V next year you cryer.

f**k me I would hate to think that the festival organisers actually came on here and read some of the absolute vitriol that gets aimed at them. They are running a festival the size of a f**king town. Of course there are going to be imperfections.

If the Glastonbury organisers do read these things, I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of me and my pals. Easily the best five days of this year and by far the greatest festival I have ever been to.

Keep up the good work.

It was the late Douglas Adams who once referenced Jesus Christ as "A man who was nailed to a tree because he went around saying how it would be nice if we were friendly to one another once in a while" ....

I've had a brilliant idea that will rescue the festival. Here it is:

  • Everybody be nice to each other, and to the planet

Think about it, it solves everything. It has the added benefit that the ticket price will reduce to nothing, since there will be no need for security, or a fence, the performers will perform just for the pleasure of it, the roadies, sound men, circus riggers, comperes, they'll do it all just to be nice. Punters will take their turn cleaning out the toilets, just for the joy of pitching in.

It will be an utopia, for 3 days in a field in Somerset.

Oh, we'll have to set up some sort of gulag down the road, out of earshot, for any traitors to progress who don't do their bit. They can build monorail carriages.

a pipe dream. Again, all the while people are prepared to shit on each other in the real world they'll shit on each other at Glastonbury......

I think they did mean utopia as "eutopia" doesn't appear in any dictionary I've seen.

utopia (noun)

"(the idea of) a perfect society in which everyone works well with each other and is happy"

Do you own an OED?

Eutopia: " A region of ideal happiness or good order."

Utopia means "no place". Use of the word implies a fictional ideal, not an achievable reality like the one proposed for Glastonbury.

I suggest you get a better dictionary.

Did you fail?

Eutopia is not a synonym of Utopia.

Utopia is an ideal, Eutopia is a description of an actual place. Misuse of the word 'utopia' is one of the most common mistakes in our language.

No, though I concede that just saying it is an alternative spelling without expanding on this was a bit of an over-simplification. Thomas Moore made a play on words when he wrote "Utopia". Eutopia did indeed mean a positive ideal place. The play on words Moore used was with the Greek for "no", which combined with the latter half of Eutopia to make Utopia; a fictional (or negative) ideal place. Over time, the word Eutopia did become synomynous with Utopia and has fallen into disuse - hence the word "dystopia" fell into common use to make the distinction between positive and negative utopias. Most dictionaries will not now contain the word Eutopia; and if they do, they will usually state that the word is now obsolete.

I think we've gone a bit off-topic B)

    • It's even less funny when in real life too...   Liddle met Rachel Royce and the couple soon became romantically involved.[84] In January 2004 the couple married at a ceremony in Malaysia. They had been living in Heytesbury, Wiltshire, and had two sons together. Six months later, Liddle moved in with Alicia Monckton, a 22-year-old receptionist at The Spectator. It transpired that he had cut short his honeymoon with Royce so that he could be with Monckton. Following their divorce, Liddle and Royce exchanged attacks in the media. Liddle called her a "total slut and slattern"

    • He was also arrested for allegedly punching his pregnant girlfriend.   Such a charmer.
    • George Borg - now he was a character. Both terrifying and endearing, often in the space of 5 minutes. Entertaining times back then!
