Glasto Smurfs and CLUNGE Flag

Peoples familys always look out for the there slibbings on telly and its nice to see a flag that they know they hold there is no rules about flags and i dont see why its such a big deal.

To be fair, although smurfysmurfette really does sound quite irritating, there were far worse flags than the Clunge flag in terms of blocking view. It was pretty compact and much higher than most.

It's the 20 foot square football and country flags that inspire a general tightening of the clunge. Which I may or may not have.

Any other festival footage does not seem to have major flag issues...it really is quite perplexing why these days there are so so many crap, national/local/badly worded/unfunny/unoriginal flags all being flown at the G.

I DID see a 'I claimed the festival on expenses' flag briefly at one point but they are all so shit now its pointless checking them out.

The only flag I keep an eye for today is the yellow Wolves flag, just cos its tradition. Dont know if its the same guy who we've seen from afar these 10 years plus but I'd like to think it is.

For some reason I've never been annoyed by the flags and generally find them quite pretty and part of all the fun. Maybe I'd feel differently if one blocked my view, but it's never really happened. I don't know why they have to be devastatingly witty or original Luce..

These guys seem quite honest that they are attention seeking and tbh that's not such a dreadful crime in Glasto is it? Should we ban all the entertainers as well? Well I was a cheerleader for half a day.... not exactly trying to hide myself (especially when I had just got dressed up and lost my gang so had to walk down to JazzWorld on my own!... hehe). Was I attention seeking? Yes I suppose so... but surely it was just a bit of fun and to most people this sort of daftness just enhanced the silliness no?

You'd think so, wouldn't you. The trouble is that the stages are normally on a hill and even tall flags can get directly in your line of sight. During Springsteen there were som many that they were blocking the screens too. So, those of us without a hope in hell of seeing the stage couldn't even see the screens.

For me the Glasto vibe means being considerate of your fellow festival-goers. Carrying flags in front of the stages to get on telly is selfish.

Well i am 5'3 cant ever see bugger all i think being so tall is selfish our flag was the talllest one and it wasnt that wide that it filled the whole stage up i just think ur trying to pick a argument to be honest

It's nice to hear from the other side of the flag debate. I'm not a flag person as such but I don't mind them because I'm not bothered about "seeing" bands (live music is about sound and atmosphere for me) and I'm actually just as happy to have a view of the stage which represents the audience - even if it does only tell me that some of them are Liverpool supporters or whatever. Also - I may not carry a flag to find my friends but I do sometimes use other people's!

The argumnent against them goes along the lines of it being selfish to spoil someone else's enjoyment. The Smurf's posts here show that it cuts both ways. They enjoyed making lots of friends by carrying a flag which drew attention. So doesn't banning flags spoil thier enjoyment? Even a football flag will have fellow supporters of that team or rivals stopping for a chat. People's flags were a starting point to many conversations around the site for us - right down to when we saw the chilli on a stick and told them they'd better be home early tonight because they were our landmark for our tent!

The Smurf's here totally innocently believe that they just added to the fun - and it becomes clear that for many people they did.

I actually think that one of the things that led me more to the pro flag side of the debate was the anti-flag movement's quite violent and total belief that they are right. Tunnel vision is very unattractive. Some of the anti-flag posts, not just in this thread but others, are so abusive it just sent me right the other way!

The clunge flag was pretty high so It wasn't that annoying in my opinion. Other flags really annoying me because some were really low and blocked the view of the stage and then when i moved and could see again, the flag holder would start waving the flag to get on tv.
