Why wasn't everything Perfect?

The boards always get like this for a few weeks after the festival. even though most people would probably admit they had a great time, it seems they aren't happy when they return if they have nothing to complain about. Personally, I think it was the best festival ever (ok, now I sound like Michael!)...but a combination of things made me leave this year completely content with everything (and not bothered about things that seem to be annoying others). I met some great people, had a whale of a time and can't wait for next year!

The festival is what you make it. Sod all the moaners! Sure things can always get better but just accept that people will be knob heads wherever you go so just move away from them and party with the good people! G L A S T O F O R E V E R!

It wasn't my best Glasto mainly due to the fact I had a rotten cold all weekend but I'll be back thats for sure!!!!!!

Why was it that my heaven-like view of Glastonbury wasn't realised?

Why is it that everyone who doesn't do as I do a nutjob?

Why do different people come to my festival?

Why do people who go to the festival live their life differently from me?

Why is it not as good as it was in the 90's?

Why is it not as good as it was in the 80's?

Why is not as good as it was in the 70's?

Seriously, there are more of these pathetic questions that are becoming tediously asked on here. People need to get some perspective, that you live with who you live with (especially at Glastonbury!), you make of your experience what you make it, you see what you see, you do what you do and you get what you get.

The fact is a 70 something farmer (someone who doesn't apparently enjoy the festival based on the idea of some on here of what enjoying the festival is) invites us onto his farm, provides us with facilities that billions on this earth would die for (seriously, does no one take notice of the messages from Oxfam, Greenpeace and Water Aid?) and delivers close to 24 hour entertainment, almost as diverse as a major city like London, New York or Paris, all in some fields in Somerset?

All this bullshit that is filling this forum is clouding the fact a kind and gentle man just gave the most of us the best week they'll have this year

Agreed. There were some w*nkers there, but armed with my stiff upper lip I managed to heroically overcome their malign influence and have a great few days. The time flew by.

When I was a little girl I joined the brownies and I remember there was a story in the handbook which went something like this.....

An old man is sitting on a bench in the park when a young woman comes and sits next to him. She tells him that she has just moved into the area and she is wondering what people are like round here. "What were they like where you lived before?" he asks. She says they were lovely people - open, warm, friendly, fun, always ready to lend a hand if you were in trouble. The old man responds "I think you'll find them much the same here"

The next day the old man is sitting in his usual spot when another young woman comes and asks the same question. "I've just moved here - what are the people like around here?" Again the old man asks "What were they like where you've come from?" She says that they were awful people, foul, bad tempered, ill mannered, selfish and would never do anything to help anyone. "I think you'll find them much the same here" he said.

I don't know why today on these boards has reminded me so much of that little tale but it has.

Thank God some people see sense, I had a fantastic time!! yes some things / people p****d me off and irritated me, so what ? Anyone who expects to spend 5 days in the company of 180,000 others, with alcohol, drugs, mud, sun, and massively high expectations thrown in - without the slightest annoyance - needs to get a grip and some perspective, remind themselves there are far far f***ing worse things people do than wave a bloody flag / sit on a chair / rope off camping areas.

At the risk of getting absolutely slated if all people have to worry about is flags, chairs and f***ing camping then take some of this legendary "glasto spirit" into the real world. After my s**test year in living memory I was happy enough to see people smiling, having fun and taking a break from it all, if people were dickheads so be it. Unfortunately dickheads dont leave their head dick at the gate.

And yes, I only joined the forums recently, and no this isn't my first Glastonbury. Every year I've read the boards pre- glasto and post - glasto. The shift from "ya all have a great time folks!" to such negative moaning has always put me off joining the forums. Maybe this explains my furious rant, its been building for a while .......

Hi Bella, I'd had a pretty rubbish year too, so having a great time at Glasto was incredibly important for me this year, and I even worried that I'd built up my expectations too hight - but my expectations were well exceeded. Your line above read so true for me that it made me cry... I had a fantastic time, and glad you did too.

I've been going since 2005, and this was definately my best yet.

A lot of the negative points being made are perfectly valid, but seemed to be getting blown out of proportion.

Ok I couldn't see Rolf properly because of a giant inflatable kanagaroo, but it didn't make him less entertaining, people were a bit push-shovy at the pyramid, so I spent more time at smaller stages, Some bloke started pissing over everyone at Nick Cave, well with 177,000 people on site you are bound to run into the odd knob any year!

All the good stuff, far outweighed any of the negative stuff for me.

I was with a newbie at one point, and like me he was amazed how after a couple of hours on site all the stresses and strains of modern life had vanished and the real world seemed a million miles away and unimportant. And that was without drugs or even a proper drink yet!

Despite a touch of negativity that I have mainly about people blocking out their tent areas it has been a fantastic festival. I loved the new areas of Williams Green and Arcadia. I didn't come across anyone nasty or malicious - quite the opposite really. I ate really well, drank really well, enjoyed almost everyone I saw didn't mind the brief outbursts of rain and generally had a great time. Stop being so negative everyone you know you loved it really and we are all going to be in front of out computers and on the phones urgently trying to get tickets for next year as soon as they are released

i was down in the dance village failing to hear 2manydjs from outside the tent and an old geezer who could have been 20 or 30 years my senior appeared next to me from out of the crowd and asked me if i was having a good festival. i was, i replied, but my feet were killing me. he gave me one of those looks that only more seasoned human beings can and said "well, you've got to put in the miles".

i had realised how daft/selfish my words were as they had left my throat, but in that one line, this guy summed the whole thing up for me.

we then had a great little chat about who we had seen, i'd seen some he'd missed and vice versa.

then we both realised trying to get into the tent to see 2manydjs was a bit of a lost cause and went our seperate ways to see what was around the next corner.

if there's a better five days to be had anywhere else on this planet, then i'd love to go!

Absolutely! I was starting to think I had been at a different festival

I had an amazing time and the only bad bit was that I am sure Monday came round quicker than normal!

Here's to next year, I for one can't bloody wait
