Dominic1983
He was amazing, it was truly a hairs-on-the-back-of-the-neck moment throughout, nearly cried at times it was so good. Popped to the loo during Mother Earth (one of his very few bad songs IMO) and missed The Needle And The Damage Done too, so gutted about that! Definitely worth paying £175 just for Neil though! Discoduck
He was AMAZING. I had planned on leaving half way through to catch a bit of Doves but he had me mesmorised from the word 'hey'! Watching it you just knew you were part of something really rather special. And to the person who said he milked 'rockin in free world', you obviously weren't standing anywhere near me as I was surrounded by hundreds (if not thousands) of people begging for more. solarfall
Yeah, I too really artists who make awesome songs more awesome and really get into the festival spirit.
Mabcat
Fantastic set. Down by the River is going to stay with me for years. It was the highlight of the weekend for me until Crosby started on Almost Cut My Hair next day. Still reeling from an incredible trip all round. What Neil Young songs were on the telly? The wife forgot to tape it...
challengechappers
Not trying to slate the man or his performance but he is a better songwriter than he ever will be a guitarist! Micawber - glad to be of service!!
washwell
Neil Young has kind of passed me by but after Friday night I'm converted - what a powerful performance - mind blowing. Had my 7 year old daughter with me and she loved every minute of it - she hasn't stopped signing 'Keep on rockin in the free world' since we got home ! LadyP
My Dad saw Neil in Nottingham on Tues night and rang me Weds to say that if I didn't make the effort to go see him I was effectively disowned!! So I did stay for the whole set and loved it. Many songe were familiar (having been brought up by big Neil fans) but I was just amazed by the power of it all, and the genuine enjoyment you could see from him, he always struck me as a bit of a grumpy old man, but he genuinely seemed to love it. The bit where he got all the crowd waving their arms was great, looked awesome on the telly as well. Happily I am still welcome at the parental home! redmosquito
He completely blew mer away. The hairs on the back of my neck still stand up when I think about it. He even had a big burly bloke who was stood behind me in tears during a couple of songs.
redmosquito
oh and apparently he only allowed the BBC to show 5 songs, I have no idea why. I'm guuted about that but I would love to get hold ofa recording of his full set.

ShadyBlueBell
Sorry if this kind of Neil Young based thread has been done already, but wow what a set. He was so grim and hardcore, the songs had so much power and awesome. I was lucky enough to be in the Press Pit for the first two songs, which was totally out of this world
davelucs
for me, he blew everyone else (including bruce) out of the water. power, emotion, charisma.what a guy. gutted he never did "out on the weekend" mind.
LRW
And I think Neil loved the set as much as we did!! I have seen him 6 or 7 times live, and never have I seen him with such a smerk on his face - obviously loving it!!
nominaomi
Once I'd seen him, I didn't care who else I watched all weekend, I was made up by him! I feel privaleged to have seen him not only live, but live at Glasto!
scorp
It was emotional. We were at the front, and the power coming off the stage was immense. I've waited a long time to see Neil at Glasto and he didn't just exceed my expectations, he stamped all over them screwed them into a tiny ball and blasted them over the pyramid. When he stalked on and launched straight into Hey Hey My My me and my mate just looked at each other and I think we were both feeling it somewhat..! Absolutely mind feckingly good. My all time best gig and best Glasto gig.... Wish we were still in that field!! Edited July 2, 2009 by scorp
angelheaded hipster
Neil was incredible. Have got a bit carried away by Blur up to now, but given that I've been a huge NY fan for many years and immensely enjoyed his performance only goes to show what an amazing year it was that something of that magnitude could be almost overshadowed. From the first song to the last (and wow, what choices for both of those!) I absolutely loved it. If Sunday hadn't happened I'd still be coming away saying I've had one of the moments of my life, never mind Glasto. What a year this was... bamber
Just to add, the sound was absolutely spot on. The acoustic guitar being played gently right through to the full band blasting along lead by old black was clear, loud and undistorted (except where it was meant to be ) This is a very rare occurrence at the Pyramid in my experience. The only slight problem was that everything else all weekend sounded a bit quiet and well, thin in comparison When the band lined up at the end the smiles said it all. It is a moment that I will never forget
staggerlee
He was utterly fantastic. One of the highlights of my life without a f**king doubt! I'd do anything to be back there waiting for him to come on and the absolute joy I felt hearing the first chords of Hey Hey My My.
