I just got an email from Bloc Party fanclub, with the following news:

GLASTONBURY CONFIRMED

Rumours have been bouncing around about us playing at this year's Glastonbury Festival in the midst of all the festivals we have planned... we can now confirm it's true!

We will be headlining the Other Stage

Well I for one am extremely happy :P:P:D

Now I'll have an alternative to watch whilst the old people are gathered round the main stage

*Waits for abuse to hit*

They are ace live but they are everywhere at the moment, ill probably watching the headliners on pyramid anyway this year so no bother, but like has been mentioned removes possibilty of a suprise addition. Gutted they are on before Radiohead aswell at Leeds, i do like them but there is such a thing as too much exposure.

It is lazy. They are on every bloody bill every year.

I think it annoys me so much because the other stage is such a brilliant place to watch headline acts.i'm guessing they were very cheap to book though...

doves derserve it more than bloc party.

Whilst I have seen Bloc Party before and found them surprisingly good live, I can't say they're a favourite, and if I'm honest I tend to skip their tracks when they come up in Shuffle. So I'll be skipping their set.

That being said, it means one less clash possibility so that's gotta be a good thing right? Silver lining to the cloud and all that.

*sigh*

Now, I don't know whether Bloc Party are truly worth of the headliner slot or not. But what I do know is that comparing them to a band like Panic! is nothing short of insulting.

Whilst their current output is not all that great, their debut album was a classic album, and remains a classic album. They have a large catalogue and despite patchy albums have still been releasing good singles. I don't think it's a stretch to see a band that are really popular, and have released a classic album, headlining the Other stage.

What is true is that they seem to play every festival in the world. They've definitely played at over half the festivals I've been to. I won't be seeing them headline, the alternatives are far better, for me.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
