Kraftwerk

Hasn't one of them left recently?

I love Kraftwerk, great band. Could almost make up for the lack of Orbital.

RDB's words on the Bestival forum

yes they are...we billed them as (Exclusive outdoor festival appearance) which it is.. and the Manchester show is an indoor collaboration, not a stand alone kraftwerk show...so Bestival is the only place to see Kraftwerk live on their own for 2 glorious hours!

The manchester show is going to be interesting....do they actually play music live? Look at 'The Robots' on youtube live, I know it's a bit of a gimmick, but they aren't on the stage and the music is just playing!!!! Aren't all of their tracks just play back?

I have booked tickets for this and can't wait.

This will be the 3rd time I've seen them and they are superb live- highly recommended

and in regards to the bestival exlcusive 2 hours thing

the manchester international festival website says that

Kraftwerk have spent the last four decades as one of the most influential bands in pop history. The group will be returning to Manchester for the first time since their near-legendary concert at the Apollo in 2004, and will be performing a two-hour set drawing on their entire catalogue.

I have never seen them live but love Kraftwerk and after watching DVD performances live - it has only confirmed what I thought... about 2% of the music is live - the rest is probably recorded or sequenced in advance.

I dont mind tho.

Kraftwerk are electro pioneers and are amazing. These guys even made their own instruments and built ties they could wear and 'play' at the same time.

Genius.

Also, how can you beat lyrics like... "I am adding. and subracting. I'm controlling and composing". Brill.

Genius!

But seriously, tracks like Trans Europe Express, Antenna, Autobahn, Radioactivity are just amazing. Then on top of them there are other great tracks and you have the more famous ones like The Robots and The Model.

If Kraftwerk play Glasto this year I am going to ring Bill Bailey and scream "yeah, its happened"!!!!

Eh?

I never mentioned original members or "extras"

I simply made the point that most of what Kraftwerk do is prerecorded or sequenced in advance. After all - its more fun to compute!

And yes - the fancy visuals are a major part of the Kraftwerk gigs - they always have been.

I think you've misunderstood, I was merely posing the question. I myself am a massive fan. I am just thinking about the fact that the music is created live, there is only 1 original member etc etc. So what actually is the point in a 'live' Kraftwerk performance, considering it's not live at all? Just music played with 1 founder stood on the stage with a couple of other guys? Isn't it?

sorry glastofun, I did misunderstand.

WOW, didnt even realise only 1 original member - oh well.

I would like to see them as have never done so and I accept that a 'band' like that could never play live. Kraftwerk really are amazing and just to have known I have seen them would be another ticked box on my 'see before I die' list. lol

But yeah, agree with what you are saying but dont mind if a few dudes that I dont know stand around and pretend to play laptops... as long as we got The Robots pumping out at full volume at night then I will be standing there impressed. lol

Ok, I think we're on the same page. Love the visuals during Music Non-Stop. They are so kitsch they have to be loved. Will be interesting to see if they're the same or not for this round of live performances. So will you be seeing them in Manchester or Bestival?

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
