Funny Neil Young quote from Eavis...

Yep. That was the question on everyones' lips when i was at Glasto last year. "Did you see Leonard Cohen last night?", "Yeah, but i bloody wish they'd get Neil Young on that stage!!!". "How were the Kings of Leon?", "Kings of who? WE WANT NEIL!!!"

lol. That line tickled me for some reason. I know he has to promote his headliners but there's a fine line between doing it justice and looking silly.

I could care its obvious the glastonbury bookers have no idea how to cater for a younger audience

Its not even that i hate old music but eavis could of picked a old band that appeals to us youngsters aswell such as metallica, AD/DC, ect not the boringness that is Neil Young

jesus they got on your back abit Wanderlei.

people get so offended or wound up on this forum

i saw nothing wrong with the OP so chill the f**k out.

It is true to say that ME saying about it being on everyones lips is a MASSIVE exageration,

wait, check through what i have said a few times just in case it winds someone up...maybe it might be my grammer,

will wait and see :P

But who is the real filthy exaggerating spawn of satan? (exaggeration)

Do we really think ME meant literally 'everyone'? nah

Is there a popular desire for NY to play glasto that goes back years (as ME said)? Yes

I've always been of the opinion that whatever is contemporary, whatever is modern represents a very small proportion of music that I might like. Music I might like stretches from the fifties to the present day. That's say for the sake of the argument around sixty years. Assuming that a new or modern band has been in existing say ten years - and that is utterly arbitrary for the point of this argument - that means limiting myself to music which is ten years means I'm discounting fifty years worth of musical history for no good reason I can think of.

Why are people discounting fifty years of music just because those who made it aren't new or modern? Is it ageism? Or a fascination with an image? A fashion? Are they fashion victims who can't actually find music for themselves, who have to be fed by the so-called fashionistas of modern music, the Radio 1s and the NMEs of this world?

neil young is widely regarded as one of the best songwriters of the 20th century...possibly only bettered by bob dylan

Why is it that hardly anybody knows any of his songs then?

For me its what Glasto is all about, id never normally go and see Springsteen or Neil Young live but Glasto gives you the opportunity to do that ill be watching both performances without a doubt.

Would also like to say those ragging on the modern day bands are doing the same as people dismissing Neil Young as boring, personally i just love music. I saw the killers last night and they were absolutely superb and ill be watching them at V, aswell as watching NY at glasto. Its actually ok to do both you know.

Good god I can't believe all the moaning about Young. I've no real interest in watching Springsteen, but it's the first time I've felt the need to mention it.

Also, and I'm sorry if this sounds a litte patronising as it's really not meant to...Some of the younger people here who are complaining about Young... You may well live to regret not watching him. As time goes on your musical tastes will change and broaden, don't be at all surprised if in 5-10 years time you come to love Neil Young's music. When I was a nipper Neil Young was on Live Aid and I thought it was the most boring thing I ever heard. Now, I can't wait for his headline slot :D

In fact, I'm willing to bet a few in years to come will be telling their mates they were in front of the Pyramid watching him <_<

    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
