don't think they're worthy, but playing some big shows at the moment and selling tours out quickly. however, the hype might have died down completely by then, possibly maximo park, kaiser chiefs or kasabian to take that slot then.

and why do you believe it wont? simply because it hasn't happened they past two years, doesn't mean that it wont happen this year. the organisers get who is available and who they think will shift the tickets. Arctic Monkeys/KOL/Kasabian/Kaiser Chiefs and whoever else, will all help to generate good sales. it wasn't that long ago that two "recent" bands headlined - 2006 - Franz Ferdinand & Muse

I think KoL and Arctic's have very different fanbases, KoL are generally at a much older type person. There is cross-over appeal but no more then Muse and Razorlight or Metallica and RATM - and having two bands with similiar appeal is hardly a totally negative thing when it's a market as big as the current indie market.

I doubt they'd book them both though as it's feel like a too weak set of headliners, guess they could be desperate.

I think it was possible for KOL and the Arctics to headline 2 years ago...but not now. This year was too much of a departure...after 2007 when the festival was of a much more 'Indie' (well, what ruined the good name indie) vibe in terms of bands. Not saying it was just, but main stage wise...it did go that way.

This year Metallica and Rage felt like a change, back to the old days of heavy rock on the main stage...seems like this year, they tried to find the balance. And in alot of ways they succeeded.

Next year, it depends if they keep trying to go back to the old school, or weather hey have another indie-ish year, or if they try and do what they did this year. If they revert back to 07 style...we could see KOL and Arctic Monkeys headlining.

In both other instances...i can't see it.

And anyway...can anyone say they'd honestly pay what is likely to be nearly 200 pounds to see The Arctic Monkeys, who are crap now, and KOL who are crap now. i'd have considered it after both they're respective first albums, but not now. Arctics put out a crap second album, and Turner just wants to be in the Beatles now, and seems to be disappearing up his own arse. KOL put out a gud album, and worse album, a much worse album and then from what i hear, a slightly better album, anyway, KOL would have to put out another album before next summer to headline.

We won't have a good idea of whos headlining till January...at least...so who cares?

Arctics...maybe...KOL...no.

Edit: @Ilovemaiden - I don't think the timings right. They're big atm, back in the studio by next summer. I think they're a dead cert for 2010 after they're 5th albums out.

arctics are a good shout, i preferred the second album though (hated it at first, but it's got weird little hooks all over the place that leave you wanting to listen to it again :P ), agree with greeny that KoL will probably be 2010 as they've played uk festivals loads and probably want to break america, still weird how an american band is huge over here and barely recognised over there. I will laugh in hysterics if bloc party are headliners, and cringe if it's the kaisers (heard the new single and sounds like a step back, i thought the second album was brilliant, just their shows are almost unwatchable, it might as well be cabaret!).

They played V and TITP as second headliners, played Reading twice at second and for me just arn't any bigger then they were then. They're a second headliner if ever I've seen one, maybe they could come back and headlne in 2010 but I don't think they're yet big enough... they could I guess but no way would they book both KoL and Arctics as headliners.

When Muse headlined in 2006, it was 7 years since their debut album.

If KOL headline this year, it's 6 years since their debut.

When Franz headlined in 2006, they'd had 2 album since 2004.

If Arctic Monkeys headline this year, they'll be on album 3 in 4 years.

Just because this year we had two legendary headliners, doesnt mean every year there's gonna be so much history. I don't find arctic monkeys and KOL a particularly attractive set of headliners compared to what could be, but there's no doubting the credibility.

RATM are Funk Metal. Metallica are Thrash Metal. As far as Metal goes there is a pretty large difference. Arctics and KOL are both Indie, fair and square. Yes, I know they don't sound identical (One has a strong Southern drawl, the other has a heavy Yorkshire accent  ) but they're both Indie bands.

Plus both RATM and Metallica have been going for donkey's years whereas Arctics and KOL have both only emerged within the past few years.

I wouldn't mind if both headlined as I like KOL and Arctics have a few tunes in them but at the same time it'd make the choice of headliners look weak.

Beasties indeed should headline, and they'd make a great Friday (Leeds) headliner. Different but still very influential and legendary, and have the "heavy" element in them.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
