I'm starting from scratch all over again, Couch25k again, started on Tuesday having done no exercise since the day I found out I was pregnant! Legs ache but hoping to get back up to 5k+ soon enough - nowt compared to you marathon folks!

I got into quite a few jogs in Feb but completely died off lately just because its so f**king boring. Got to get back into football next season!

any boredom over coming techniques for jogging? The ipod generally takes a bashing... I couldn't stop listening to metal and electro

Did 10 x 10k in January, had a bit of a bug for it, and was starting to regularly get under 50mins. Most ever in a month too. But work currently stopping all that, hardly the time.

Have been told I can enter the Watford 10k in May. Not holding my breath for it, something tends to get in the way. But no races, hence not been on this thread lately.

I'm into week 7 of my Edinburgh Marathon training. This is my second marathon (after Edinburgh last year) and although I've done everything in the plan, I'm not enjoying it and strangely finding it tougher the second time around. I'm not running anywhere near as quick as I was this time last year. I'll persevere for a few weeks but I may end up downgrading to the Half on the same day. I've got the Inverness Half a week on Sunday and I'm going to struggle to break 2 hours, which is disappointing for me (PB is 1:53).

Can things suddenly click into place though Kowalski? If there's that hope, do stick with the original plan.

Is Phil still up for it too?

Yeah, fingers crossed mate. I'll keep at it.

I don't think Phil's doing it but he's having a go at the training though.

nice, I'd like to do a marathon, but I'd need to increase my running/cardio , I go running sometimes in the mornings after work - and do cardio 2/3 x a week for 45-60mins, did 45mins on the cross trainer today

but marathons are just SO far, i'd have to do so much more to be able to do a marathon i guess :(

Swap your cardio 2/3 times a week for an hour run, and add a long run on a weekend, and you're virtually there.

Marathon's aren't that hard - i reckon at least 50% of it is in your head.

yea-thing is though, the roads/pavements are crap, always worry I'll sprain my ankle or something :(

it's hard though, I mean I go to the gym almost daily..but 4/5 of those days are lifting weights..sometimes depending on time I do some cardio after

else i do cardio on the days I dont lift weights in the gym-

working nights doesn't help - I get up at 5, go gym at 6, work at 10 etc - sometimes dont feel like going for a run after working all night

I've hurt myself more on a treadmill than I have on the roads - and I avoid pavements like the plague

I think that's the same for runners all over the world!

Anyone do the Ashby 20 today?

Weather wasn't great, but it didn't put most off, good crowd of people (think around 800 showed up in the end). As it's a good tester for London I'm pretty confident I'm ready; 2hr48 today, so in theory a 3:30 for London's possible.

i've just moved to a house that backs onto Platt Fields park in manchester,

its sooooooo nice to be able to run through a park instead of laps around houses on a street :D

nice, i hate running on the roads/pavements -- too many potholes and stuff, too easy to do your ankle in :(

no fields or anything near me, :(

  • 2 weeks later...

One of my friends got a place in the London Marathon ballot, and has been allocated a race number.

She's just been told that due to an "administrative error" that she will no longer be running!

She has trained for 16 weeks, and has flights and accommodation booked to take her family down from Aberdeen.

What an absolute scandal. I hope she kicks up a fuss, as I sure as hell would. I hope she gets some money back off the c**ts.

Makes you wonder whether it's really worth entering the ballot for these things.

That's shocking. I hope it gets brought to the attention of the right person and sense prevails.

I was surprised when I found out how the london marathon works - not everyone that wants a place ges a place, and something to do with companies or people paying, seemed a bit odd to me

200,000 people enter the ballot, and more would if it wasn't shut. There's no way the course can handle that many people.

Charities do have an opportunity to purchase bond places, think they're a few hundred quid. They then get their runners to raise a higher minimum amount - usually between £1500 and £2500 depending on how big the charity is. A well known one like say Cancer Research would be at the higher end

No-one do the London Marathon ultimately then? I have my 2012 entry in, for what it's worth.

As for shoes, I bought what seems like an expensive pair & they seem to do me The Muel, but no idea about what you're asking about I'm afraid.

I took a year out to give my knees a break this year, I've entered the ballot for 2012 though, best of luck!

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
    • Taxi mafia running their usual scam.
