I need a kick up the bum to get back into running properly - I've got some fairly decent PBs from last year (20:32 5k; 1:42:43 1/2 mara; 5:27 mile), but this year has been taken over by work, gigging, swine flu and the evil tobacco :-( I've been having ideas about ultra running... or even some kind of project like running LeJog. But they've got no further than my head so far!

So, did anyone get into London? I didn't.

Yes, and i'm dead chuffed - 3rd time of trying. Feel a bit guilty now though - sorry you didn't.

Just got to decide which charity to run for now.

River Ness 10K for me on Sunday, hopefully finally break the magic 50 minutes.

Good luck, is it a quick course?

I wasn't really expecting to get in. I'm waiting to hear if any of my other running friends got in, if any did, then I might have to try for a golden bond place.

Yep, its the fastest 10K up here, and a brilliant event, so should do it.

How was the half?

Let us know how you get on.

Half was agony - nearly 10 mins slower than my PB, should never have run so close to doing the marathon. You live and learn.

49.37 in the River Ness 10K. Third race in a row I've set a PB.

Discussions are under way to do a marathon after getting rejected from London. Edinburgh in May might get the nod.

Nicely done. I know you said this was a faster course, but I presume you've also been avoiding slowing down the training after each race, which would surely help with getting faster.

Yep, been going at it hammer and tong three times a week for the last month, as I wanted to break 50 this morning.

Will now concentrate on another half marathon in November now. Good luck with yours.

I tried London a week or so after this year's event and discovered I was too late.

or did I miss a trick?

London opened (and closed) the day after the race.

5 weeks to my half and up to 7 miles. Think that's about right, increase a mile a week.

Generally speaking you shouldn't increase your runs by more than 10%. Though i know i didn't stick to that in the build up to Berlin Marathon.

I am just back from a half marathon in France. Very very hilly, and mostly off road. But a beautiful scenic route. I ran a pretty dreadful race to be honest, but was 90 seconds slower than my PB time, so was very pleased. The race was fantastic, and worth doing. If I go again next year, I will make sure I do more hill work though, and more work off road. It really was that tough. Then I am a back of the pack runner anyway.

Sounds superb. Where in France is it?

What made you enter? Have you family over there or holidaying in the area anyway or something?

After experiencing Berlin, I definitely want to do more races overseas.

Would have done the Paris marathon probably if i hadn't got a place in London

Hi. I entered as the town where my running club is based is twinned with that town! We went across as a club. It was in Normandie not that far from Aramanche.

Yes, this has made me want to do more races aboad, just to experience it. I took just unde 2:30 to do it, and it only had 900 runners.

Lucky you getting in London, I have had 4 rejections now.

Ah, I've been there - that's the town with the floating harbour left from the war right?

That is unlucky - still, you're guaranteed a place next year at least.

Well I've taken the plunge and entered my first marathon, in Edinburgh, in May 2010.

Looks like a nice introduction to the distance. Good Luck!

Can't find a graph like that for Berlin, but do have this info:

Elevation min: 95ft

Elevation max: 184ft

ascent: 240ft

descent: -230ft

When compared to London:

Elevation min: -3ft

Elevation max: 167ft

ascent: 262ft

descent: -367ft
