Did my first half marathon in July, but it was a cross country one. And it started at midnight.

Need to get more into running, get myself some proper trainers and a decent sports bra

How did that go? and where was it? I must say proper trainers and a good bra are ultra important! :)

First night out with the running club and ended up doing about 4 and a half miles (one person's watch said 4.2, one said 4.7, and I hadn't counted the two laps of the track we started with) - never run that far before :O There's a 5 miler on 12th August, not sure if it's a bit soon to think about entering given I spent most of tonight at the very back!

Nothing wrong with being at the back!

I think you should be fine for your 5 miler. It sounds as though you did 4.5ish miles tonight, and then you have to add on the 800m or so off track.

Good luck if you do decide to do it.

Sorry for the late reply, forgot I posted on here!

Did it in 5hr 21, wasn't too bad considering it was my first, and about 80 - 90% was on fields/through woodland. Made it back to camp (was a circular route) just before sunrise, ate strawberries, showered and fell to sleep.

  • 3 weeks later...
Averaging between 40-50 miles each week now. Less than 5 weeks to D-Day and only 2 more endurance runs to go...

Blimey, that's very impressive. I'm averaging 25-30 per week. Half marathon in 3 weeks (my second) and confident of breaking 2 hours.

Well my 2nd Half Marathon is two weeks on Sunday and everything seems to be going to plan. I was 2 hours 3 minutes when I did my first half in March, and I'm reasonably confident of sneaking in under 2 hours for this half (weather dependent). After that I have two of the quickest 10Ks in the NE of Scotland so hoping to break the magical 50 minutes.

I'm putting a lot of focus on all this at the moment.

Perhaps next year we can have an efest challenge somewhere (possibly a half marathon?) and try and get a few people to enter the race (I don't mind travelling down) followed by a few post race imbibings.

That's a right sadistic suggestion! Suppose I'd better agree nonetheless :(

How about a half before the Manchester meet?!?

I like this idea, especially the post race bit!

When's the Manchester meet?

I was just having a peruse of half marathons down South late this year/early next year, and I didn't realise you can race round the Silverstone circuit!

After the novelty of being on the circuit has worn off (30 seconds?) the most boring half marathon course in the UK?

So long as we all have to wear crash helmet and carry little steering-wheels, I reckon it could work.

Manchester meet is when Rufus says it is. Late February last I heard.
