  1. That was the first year I'd missed since I started in 2002. I know you'll all take the piss, but I remember watching that Coldplay set in tears, as I knew that's where I should be. It did look ace on TV with the sides of the Pyramid all lit up in different colours.
  2. IIRC they said that a lot of the metal trackway they had planned to use was under a couple of inches of mud at the Download festival site, which meant they were short. 2016 was our first year in CV West, I saw a lot of folk in tears as their beloved vehicles were towed off by tractors. There must have been thousands of pounds worth of damage caused by the giant ruts that developed. We saw one six figure motor home have its bumper wrenched off. Heartbreaking.
  3. The Who 2007 - it was like watching a gig whilst full dressed in one of those waterfall showers. I also had two under 10's in tow but they're one of my favourite bands and I had to see it through to the end. It was grim.
  4. It took us 8.5 hours just to get out of the field our car was parked in. No stewards to be seen anywhere, a group of us must have pushed over 40 cars out of that field. My brother was a few fields over and was out in 15 minutes! I can still remember a young lad in a 4x4 Fiat Panda doing doughnuts in the field, he was having a ball. The car just seemed to glide over the mud. My wife loves the festival but I had a really difficult time persuading her to go in 2008. Too young kids stuck in the back of the car for that length of time was trying to say the least. Eventually got back to Wakefield just before midnight and we were packed and back to the car by 10am!
  5. I think it was a mixture of all the reasons you mentioned. The unrelenting rain of 2007 put off some of my mates, as did Jay Z headlining. It was definitely the muddiest I've attended, even worse than 2016. I believe the festival was still a sell out but you could definitely get tickets a few days before it started. By the way, the Amy Winehouse performance was one of the worst I've ever seen on the Pyramid, and I like her music
  6. Thank you, this thread reminds me of teaching primary school, some incredibly childish arguments.
  7. That's a blast from the past, I enjoyed it too, it's an early series from Jed Mercurio, who created Line of Duty.
  8. I went every evening to the SEC, and IICON was a strange atmosphere each time I passed through. I think there was too much space! Really think that it needs a bit of an overhaul, a more eclectic choice of music in the early hours. Always enjoy my time there but I definitely preferred the Lost Vagueness vibe, not knowing what you were going to find. Probably why I love Boomtown.
  9. Anyone any idea when the next batch of acts for this will be announced. My best mate has tickets but not quite enough on the line up to tempt me just yet, but a couple of additions may just do it.
  10. Just watched the first episode of Peacemaker, I laughed a lot more than I though I would. Not sure where it will go story wise, but definitely worth a watch. Looking forward to watching the Yellowstone (love this programme) spin off, 1883
  11. Binged the last 4 episodes last night and fully agree with this. Episodes 5 and 6 were the definite stand outs!
  12. Like most, mine would change on a daily basis, but this was the one that made me fall in love with live music again, after my child induced hiatus! And I didn't really care for them before the festival
  13. Seen them twice in the last three months, awesome live!
  14. This had me all excited that there was something on the newsletter about the beer, now I know you're referring to one less day!
  15. There is, I'd have had Kid Kapichi over Bob Vylan though!
  16. Can anyone post the newsletter, we don't appear to have it? Scrub that, found it on the website
  17. So who were the new additions, The Skints and Fat White Family? Definitely a lot of shouty bands this year!
  18. I'm hoping so too Paul, I've listened to 80 per cent of the acts released for Pallet and Woodland and got my very short list. I just don't think it will be my year. I've already got the dates pencilled in my diary for 2023 and 2024 so it won't change my feelings towards the festival. It's the first festival in my diary because of the value for money and because I'm guaranteed a ticket. Plus I love the beer!
  19. I'm with you on the line up. Been for the last 5 festivals and loved it (definitely won't be giving up my ticket), but for my tastes, this is definitely the weakest line up since I started attending. I've got maybe 6 must sees so far, but I do have to work through the Maui Waui line up.
  20. It really is, saw Soak / Ailbhe Reddy in York on Tuesday and 6 acts at Wroot Rocks, last night for £25. Would have also seen the K's on Monday but I was still knackered from Riff Fest on Saturday.
  21. Loved the Janelle gig, my stand out performance in 2019, but haven't been able to get into Little Simz, could you suggest a couple of tunes that I might like.
  22. He was one of our must sees in 2019 but unfortunately he had health problems and cancelled
  23. That's my thought as well, it could be my first ever Other Stage headliner
