Hey I've been going to Glastonbury for the past 4 years now and I absolutely love it..Obviously! However this year I'm trying my luck in the resale on Thursday and Sunday (quietly feeling confident!) but have no one to go with. I dont mind going alone but i'm just a little worried I might not have the same expeirence that i'm used to and that keeps drawing me back.

Does anyone have any tips for going to Glastonbury solo?

(sorry if this is already a topic, i've never used a forum before)

Thanks!

Jasper.

I've done Glasto solo, with a gang of six, and most permutations in between. The thing to remember is that you'll never be alone at Glasto, unless you want to be. One year when I went solo, after my daughters dropped out at the last minute, I was pushing my wheelbarrow up a hill and there were a group of women, who had already set up camp, watching the poor old man's progress. As I drew alongside them they joked: "I'd quit while you're ahead."

So I stopped, they made me a cup of coffee, helped me put my tent up and I joined their encampment for the weekend.

Years on I have graduated to the CV fields with a caravan but we still keep in touch and try to meet up each year.

Just say hello to your neighbours, offer to swap some food, drink or whatever and you'll make some great friends.

Never been to Glasto before but I'm really keen on going this year. Having a tough time trying to convince anyone else I know to go, so I'm considering if I should try for the presales and go solo. I'm not that bothered about being on my own, I'd probably end off going to see the bands I like on my own anyway, but I'm just debating whether it'll be worth spending so much money and having no one to share the experience with.

Do not be frightened to go it alone! I'm doing the same, as are hundreds of others, you will meet new people, but also you have the complete independence to go and see who you like, in a group there are always pressures to go with the group etc. its very liberating....just do it! You will not regret it!

This year will be my 4th time on my own, having been with groups that got gradually smaller each year prior to 2011. It's great, you can just do what you want when you want, but there's always someone to talk to when you feel like it.

As others have said, no-one is on their own at Glasto.

The freedom of being able to go where and when you want, and see whatever you want to see without having to plan around others.

Its a great opportunity to be selfish and do exactly what you want to do!

Have an amazing time and be prepared to meet some great new people.

Going alone may suit some people, but not all. Plus, there's an element of luck involved: although people don't want to burst the myth by admitting it, there will be a fair percentage of cocks at the festival. If you find yourself camped next to them, or even if you just stumble across them on your travels, that could be enough to make you feel isolated from things. Sometimes it's nice to know someone's got your back - presenting a fake smile to the world can be tiring. Check >this thread< for an honest account of what it can be like.

If you've any doubts whatsoever about going alone, then making arrangements to meet a few people/groups off here would be a smart move.
