Another vote for A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs. I've been working through this over the last few months and it has been the most enjoyable music history I have ever heard, deeply rigorous and academic but nonetheless completely compulsive to the point of distraction. I can't recommend it enough. Hickey is a genuine one off genius.

Disappointment: LP - Arcade Fire - We - what a shocker, going the same way as Muse but not as funny. Gig - tough to chose between Pixies and Bright Eyes at EotR, both very tired.

My first Glastonbury 'moment' was in 2011 when we came across the piano in Greenfields on our first day. Someone was doing 1980s Karaoke and we ended up staying for an hour, despite missing something on our must-see list and the fact that it was raining steadily. It changed everything - we learned to relax and go with the flow, avoid the big crowds and just see what we find. I've enjoyed every minute of each festival since and met some wonderful people and discovered acts I would never have found otherwise.

Great festival as ever, filled with lots of memorable moments, but the highlight for me was definitely and, slightly surprisingly, Black Midi (I've seen them before and been underwhelmed). Everything about their performance was brilliant, the atmosphere, the sound quality - absolutely epic this year in the Garden - and their relentless playing without a pause. We were all blown away. Disappointments; the Boat stage where we could never see the band, some of the undercard were frankly mediocre and Pixies, who seemed worn out. But, really, this is picking at straws.

Kendrick, closely followed by Idles.

That's a shame, they were a definite.

Looks perfect to me. Typical Glasto weather and not 2017 hot and dusty where everyone had to be out of their tents and it was crazy busy on the paths. We should rejoice and give thanks to the weather Gods. See you all tomorrow. x

Always used lightweight walking boots including the very muddy 2011 and the very hot 2019. I make sure they are broken in and properly waterproofed. Walking 12-15 miles a day on average so it pays to get it right. Good socks and Compeed plasters a must. Now I’ve gone and made myself sound like a member of the Ramblers Club! However, I will be also wearing a ‘60s fake fur jacket, a massive wing collared flowery shirt a purple fedora and purple flares to compensate.
