Glamping - good idea or terrible?

Be keen for some advice from people in a or have been in a similar position as I. Thinking of going to Glasto for the first time in 2024 and will probably do it solo (assuming I can get a ticket of course). I'm travelling from Australia and will probably tack on a week or two in Europe just after before heading back.

I've toyed with the camping idea - pre-pitched to own tent - but finding it hard to reconcile the idea of lugging a shitload of gear from Australia to London and then finally the festival, along with the stint in Europe, and carrying it back to Australia, probably alone. (Perhaps with a tent, but the usual trolley, bed, bedding, camping gear, etc)

I know I could buy when I land in London but that seems a waste of good relaxation time so perhaps glamping is the simplest and best option? I know I miss out on some of the best things you get from festival camping but is the trade off from that against simple and care-free really that large? Cheap and dump gear seems stupid, particularly if the heavens open up and it heaves down, or it gets real cold.

Other option was a campervan on-site which might be better - or maybe a pre-erected tent or tipi? Would love to find the right balance between a long-haul trip, festival atmosphere, and practicality. Keen for your thoughts.

Tbh getting the ticket is the massive hurdle these days before those decisions. Even those of us who thought we long since worked out methods of success have struggled - that's assuming you're not wealthy enough to pay the hefty premium for hospitality tickets (which usually come along with very expensive accommodation).

If you got a ticket then there are official pre-erected options such as Sticklinch and Worthy View (I've used the first and it was great)

Such as https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/accommodation/pre-erected-camping/sticklinch/sticklinch-accommodation-options/

Or third party options like tangerine fields

I have done sticklinch which I didn't like as it was far from the areas I like. I did tangerine fields which is also far away. Lovefields which is good but costly. And campervan east. I have also camped on site. For me canpervan east or lovefields. Lots of atmosphere in campervan area anyway.

I've done pre-erected (Tangerine Fields) at other festivals, and done campervan East at Glasto a few times which is MUCH preferable for me than camping down in the main bit! I don't feel it takes away from any atmosphere at all. You can still make friends with people around you, but getting a good nights sleep of sorts is so key for me to maximise my festival fun.

I think if you are lucky enough to get a golden ticket the worthy view or Sticklinch options that @clarketementioned are the best. They are technically offsite but near as possible and as they are run by the festival they are not as expensive as some of the other glamping options.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
