Car vs Coach from London?

Hi!

It's our first Glastonbury this year  and looking for advice on the best way down there between car and coach from London?

I read about some horror traffic jam stories last year for cars, but if travelling by coach are these less due to number of cars vs coaches or do you run the same risk regardless of travelling by coach or car?

What about how near you can park/get dropped off for getting to the camping fields...is one better than the other? 

Any other pros or cons for each appreciated!

Been going from London since 2000 and have done the journey by both car and coach. 

It depends on what you get up to and how much you take. We always get the coach now and travel light as would rather enjoy the Sunday night and not have to drive back on the Monday.  

It was nice being able to leave backup clothes etc in the car when we did drive but to be honest if its an emergency there is nothing you can't get on site.

Now over 30+ years I have driven by car and less often by "crew coach"  from London  - you can still be held up in traffic even on a coach - but it's when you arrive that can change things - your told where to park - does not matter that you can see two miles of empty fields - you have to park there - end of story - or you could be directed to a space that is inches from the gate - you will never know as its all down to luck - so do you feel lucky ? - on the Monday its down to luck again as there has been year's just getting out the car park is longer than the rest of the journey !!!!! - on paper we should drive " as we know which crew car park we have been allocated " but we also know how rough we will feel on Monday- so for us its far easier being on the coach

Traffic jams from last year was the same for both cars and coaches. I was stuck in a coach for 8 hours coming from London.

Last year wasn't normal - that was the first notable trouble on the roads since 2009 I think.  They then (2010?) started allowing people to arrive from Tuesday evening, so not everyone arrives at once - a few things conspired against last year.  By car I was able to plan a different route and set off at a slightly different time, less scope for that by coach, you'll hit whatever is happening.

Coach will drop you right by a gate, and you're straight in with less to worry about.  It'll force you to travel light, which is a good thing really.

You have to be able to drive the car at the end of the weekend.  Lugging all your stuff through the car park is a massive ache - but when you do get to the car you can leave when you want - except on Monday you're likely to be straight into gridlock in the carpark.  So you can decide to leave earlier or later to aim to avoid these kinds of issues.  With the bus you have to be where you're supposed to be on time, but that's no guarantee that your bus will turn up.  

Car park is (very?) expensive, but it then offsets the cost if there's more of you in the car vs costs multiplying upwards with each extra person by public transport.

Have done both numerous times and definitely prefer the bus these days. Especially on the way back, easy to close your eyes and drift off.  plus a shorter walk through Gate A once there.
