Robshaw gets a very tough and undeserved ride.

There's lots of issues that require improvement. His captaincy is way way down the list of things that require action.

There is always a group of death in the Rugby WC and its probably fair that the team that had home field advantage ended up in it. England are not unlucky in the sense that they were simply not good enough to beat the Ozzies and were the makers of their own downfall against Wales, both games played in fortress Twickers...............

Robshaw gets a very tough and undeserved ride.

There's lots of issues that require improvement. His captaincy is way way down the list of things that require action.

 

I agree the captaincy isn't the main issue. Im not convinced he is up to the standard as a player.  His mediocrity means he would have to be an exceptional, inspirational captain to make up for it, I see little evidence that he is.

 

After Wales lose to Australia then that call not to kick for the draw will be focussed on even more.  After the game I had the feeling that Lancaster and Robshaw were both toast, I now have the feeling that Lancaster may cling on and Robshaw may be made the fall guy.

 

Then again every prediction I have made in this world cup has been wrong (mostly in my favour) so I can confirm that I think Wales have no chance of winning the world cup!

I don't think this England team are particularly overhyped. I think people thought they had a chance of doing well because of a good home record and flaws of the other teams, rather than because of a great talent pool.

Over here everyone was saying how "good" they was and said they had a big chance of winning it, although I don't personally follow rugby. I'm made to support St Helens because they're my local but I don't care so much for it.

Well they haven't won a six nations, so Im not sure where that assessment came from.  They certainly had a chance of winning it, but I think that's because the gap between the best and the rest has shrunk in recent years.

They were over hyped. As always the English media will over hype, and especially as it was an "England World Cup". As you mentioned they couldn't even win a 6 nations. How does it follow that they had a great chance of winning a WC? People always fall for the media hype.  

 

They turned out to be so far off the mark its not even funny. The real shit thing is that when people fall for the hype the reality when it hits usually hurts a lot more than it should

I think that's slightly OTT. England finished 3rd in the 2007 6 nations and went on to reach the final.

This year England finished 2nd, beating Wales in Wales, and only losing a close fought game in Ireland.

It wasn't overhyping the England team to believe they could or even should get out of the group. Once you do that anything is possible - as England showed in 2007.

Similarly, France lost 2 games out of 5 in the 2011 six nations yet reached the World Cup final in the same year.

Irish Media - "Lets hope we get out of the group and if we can, beat France doing so, so we will avoid the All Blacks potentially"

 

The same Irish team that were better in the 6 nations than the English team being hyped to win the competition 

 

It aint OTT IMO. Im exposed to English media a lot for such tournaments like this and the footie WC and they are always overhyping the English teams. Its in their nature.

BTW does anyone know if England not qualifying for the 2nd round will affect their automatic qualification for the next WC? Doesnt performance in this world cup stand for something with respect to qualification in the next usually?

Show me the media that said England should or will win the World Cup...I read only that England could win the World Cup. Which is not overhyping.

Also depends on what media you're exposing yourself to. If it's the mirror and talksport, you'll be hearing different things than if it's Mick Cleary, Robert Kitson, Paul Rees, etc.

As for your line about the Irish media, I can't say it isn't true as I'm not exposed to it. However, the Irish presence in the British media have not been saying anything about hoping to get out of the group. It's all been they 100% will get out of the group. The only question being whether they'll top the group or lose out to France.

Not as far as I'm aware. It's usually done solely on rankings. As long as England remain in the top 8 in the rankings they'll be fine.

It's why Wales ended up with the (stronger!) English team as well as Australia in the Pool stage. They were 9th in the rankings back when the draw was made in 2012.
