Rape victims getting more quizzed about their sexual history in court in the aftermath of Ched Evans' appeal:

So disgusting. I said when the appeal came through that I'd trust in the courts' judgement, but I was very wary of the fact her sexual history had been used as evidence for the impact of precedent, and it seems it's becoming so. Sigh.

I find it difficult to condemn someone who feels they have been falsely accused of rape for going down this route if they think it's the difference between a guilty and not guilty verdict.

At the same time it's up to the law to look at things from a distance. Changing the law seems to be a sensible option in this case.

An interesting article by the secret barrister about the flaws of the law of section 41 as written:

https://thesecretbarrister.com/2017/02/09/the-rape-shield-bill-is-well-intentioned-meaningless-and-dangerous/

Basically to say that it's very unclear, with limited definition and scope, which is either incredibly useless or so broad as to be dangerous.

    • Have you tried Anna von Hausswolff yet? Great singer, and she's from Gothenburg so guess she'll be extra excited to show her skills, especially after she unfortunately had to cancel her early summer dates.    Different style, but Oklou for me was the highlight of Primavera (apart from Geese), really enjoyable relaxed music.
    • A few bigger acts that did other similar festivals this year but not Truck, wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of these (if they're touring):   Reytons The Streets Blossoms Sophie-Ellis Bextor Rick Astley Scissor Sisters Dizzee Rascal   Truck on the undercard seems to rotate a lot of it every 2/3 years, expect to see some of these (if they're touring): Yard Act Sports Team Sea Girls Pale Waves Fat Dog Peace Swim Deep Courting   Hope Westside Cowboy and Radio Free Alice are booked again and get some bigger slots next year
    • I read a reliable source saying there's not enough time to stress test and have worked through any major financial decisions between now and then.   So guarantees this budget will just be tinkering at the edges only.
    • Thanks @sisco. Looking forward to it!
