Rockwhercter or Glastonbury

I have a few friends which are still undecided whether they will get their deposit refunded and go to Rockwhercter because of the line up and not being sure about who will be at Glastonbury ( I know people will say that its not just the line up blah blah blah and I've told them that but for them it's the main pull) it'd be theirs as well as my first time too.

My question is what are some reasons to choose Glastonbury over Rockwhercter and vice versa? Personally I think a lot of the RW line up will be at glasto anyway, it's one week after the festival

It's just a different kettle of fish. If you can go to Glastonbury, you have to go. No real question in my honest opinion.

I've been to both. Rock Werchter is great and they have a superb line up this year. But,... nothing really compares to Glastonbury. Werchter is about the music. 4 big stages. Glastonbury is music and much much more.

If going to a festival is 100% about the lineup for you then maybe go to Rockwherchter.

Glasto is about so much more than that and it is guaranteed that there will be something good on SOMEWHERE on site at all times. If you can't find something to keep you entertained at Glastonbury then there's something wrong with you.

I have never found myself at glasto thinking to myself "Jesus, there's nothing on now, what will I do" and I've only seen a handful of acts on the Pyramid or Other stage the 3 years I've been.

I went to Rock Werchter last year and really didn't like the festival, though the setting is lovely and - buzzing over on the Eurostar - travel time isn't much longer than it is to Glasto, at least from London... Reasons I didn't like it: stupid food token system and general lack of food and drink choice. I think the only drinks available were water, coke, beer and possibly red bull - heavy corporate sponsorship on all counts, of course; extremely heavy handed security... I've never seen anything like it. Lame 'front section' at the front of the crowd, which - though a good idea on principle - meant extremely minimal movement in the front area, as people just camped down with their stuff for the day and waited for the headliners.... One of the worst festivals I've ever been to, but if your sole intention is to see a lot of bands then it may be for you.

I've never been to Werchter but it seems to be one of those festivals (like Coachella) that people foam at the mouth over line-up without looking at the other aspects of organisation and set-up that may be more important. It does usually have a strong line-up across a small number of stages but from what I understand not much else. If it's all about the music and the bands they have suit you then I imagine that musically it could be great value for money.

I often find that the European rock festivals with good posters have little else - a couple of stages with 3-4 big names each day.

If you genuinely like music, the 20-30 stages at Glastonbury and incredible variety is just unbeatable. All day - all over the festival site.

Plus there is not stupid camping/arena divide which is just incredibly lame.

If your group is having doubts then definitely go to Rockwercther. Make a holiday of it. Do something different. Go abroad. Free up ticket space for people who are desperate to go. xxxx

You know, I've been thinking that it would be easier to get tickets if people weren't speculatively buying deposits in this way. Sorry for the inference OP, but this thread has led me to wonder just how many people are doing this each year..

Rock Werchter always seems to get excellent line-ups; I've been tempted to go a number of times.

I think the key difference is that RW lives and dies on who they can sign to play any given year; Glastonbury sells out before a single act is even named. True it has attracted some incredibly high calibre headliners, especially in recent years, but it's likely it would sell out quickly next year even if there aren't any "super headliners" this year.

If you are not sure if Glastonbury is for you, don't go and free up a ticket for someone who does desperately want to go.

Before anyone says it I have my ticket already but know so many people who really want to go and didn't get tickets and I'd rather be at Glastonbury with people who really want to be there.
