Feeling guilty about derailing the thread. A lot of the above should be in Dirty Independence, sorry OP.

Here's something to observe, and perhaps comment on. Its the nearest thing to soul music that there is in Scotland. Its so primal. Or maybe its just a big droning cacophany.

Apologies Metallimuse, I know that Uist sings far better, but this clip comes in at a handy 3.30 mins.

Here' s two girls from my island singing recently. You can hear the strong accent of an islander while they are being introduced aswell.

That's what I remember in the pubs and at social gatherings growing up.Someone got up and sang recently at my step dads funeral aswell.Sent shivers down me.

I'm trying to imagine that scenario. The media outcry, that sort of thing... apart from that I'm guessing most asylum seekers arrive in Scotland via the south ?

You really think that rUK would give up on having its own immigration policy and open the doors and let anyone in, just because Scotland had a different policy?

Were the commentators anonymous ? How many commentators posted multiple comments ? Scotsman comments sections are part of the 'air war', at least the Herald makes users give a genuine name.

That wouldn't just be over-playing the conspiracy theories just a little? I know the yes campaign does love them.

Neighbouring countries tend to have a bit of a closer relationship. North and South Korea excepted acourse.

The closer relationship doesn't extend to the policies wanted by one being an obligation on the other.

As it happens, regarding the border/immigration issue, the agreed stance is already there, with the agreement that exists between the UK & Ireland - where Ireland has to operate it's immigration rules in tandem with the UK.

Scotland is saying it will do something different. So the possibility of it being treated differently has been Scotland's choice.

So...Rupert Murdoch owns Scotland. I hadn't realised that. Thanks.

You can thank me again when you wise up to it. :)

There's a few alternatives kicking around in here -

but they're not what most Scots I've seen express an opinion claim they're voting for. They're at odds with those claims. Edited by eFestivals

I don't understand the logic in wanting to leave the UK and then join the EU.

Because contrary to certain propaganda, the peoples of the world are better together after all.

The white paper for an independent Scotland even recognises how fantastic the union of England and Scotland is and wants to keep some of the parts - which always makes me chuckle, particularly when you see yes supporters claiming there's not a single thing which can make a good case for the union.

I'm starting to sound like a unionist; I'm not in the sense that it's meant towards England and Scotland. If Scotland wants to be indie then go for it, just don't go for it thinking that it'll be anything like Salmond claims.

Apropos previous post about Gaelic Psalm singing being our soul music. Arguably its everyone else's too .

Exhibit A - Highland land clearance led to displaced Scots taking it over to Kentucky, Virginia, the Appalachian mountains . Its incorporated into the Southern Baptist church

    • Wednesday is a nice addition imo
    • Kronenberg in a tent as well IIRC but Brooklyn Pilsner was easier to get without queueing and was everywhere across the festival.
    • I think they'll end up doing something due to pressure and bad PR. Maybe they do a discount code for next year or bar credit or something along those lines.    I agree though. I acknowledge that the lineup is huge but surely you can't cancel 33% of the headliners and not reimburse in some way. Their insurance will probably cover their fees for MA, Doja, Bad Gyal and Mac DeMarco due to force majeure.
    • Looks like nothing for weekend ticket holders. You'd expect a goodwill gesture.
    • Enough has been covered about how much of a sh*t show that was, so I'll just say, Massive Attack and it's relationship with this festival (and potentially me) are f**king cursed.    They were announced in 2020 when I first got excited about seeing them. They were subsequently on the poster for 21, 22 and now 26. This time I was in actually in the crowd close to the stage waiting for them twice haha. I give up!
