Loyalty Scheme or over the counter tickets

Can beat that! Me and a fellow geek were on "telnet" in 91 at Uni. We could connect to computers in the states on a green screen monitor using ip addresses (which you had to write down on scrap paper to remember).

We used to get big crowds around us when we had real world chats with peeps in Uni's in Canada etc.

The other geek got kicked out of college, and 5 years later I nearly fell of my chair when I saw him in the rich list for under 30's (ahead of the Beckhams) with an internet business based on ideas we had discussed.

Several years later he went bankrupt claiming the powers that be were foreclosing his bank accounts as he was a security threat.

Last I heard of him, he was in Sri Lanka with Arthur C. Clarke, coming up with the *nextbigthing*. (this obviously about ten years ago).

I'm always a bit saddened when it gets announced on all the BBC channels and radio stations - I'd far prefer they held off talking about it until the day of the sale. Not in any unfair way but just to give a bias to those bothered enough to remember

I totally agree with the last line. I often wonder if any of those people that have poked fun at alternative suggestions would wish there was an alternative if they suddenly lost connectivity between the hours of 9 and 10am on Ticket day

I thought the early sale was a brilliant idea this year, unfortunately we did not even try cos not really condusive to family travelling....

Obviously it's your call but can I just say we nearly always travel by public transport and always have a flight in and have done so with our 2 children since they were 5 and 6 years. It's well doable if you plan well, don't bring much and buy as much as you can onsite.

Being flexible meant we had tickets done and dusted by 6.05pm in the Thurs coach sale for next year's festival.

One year there was me and my partner and 7 children travelling into Birmingham and then a train and coach in (though they were approaching or already teens ). This year it was a flight the night before into London then a coach down. Next year we have Bristol but no idea of times and mightn't know until early April so we'll have to fly over the Tues night in case probably.

I appreciate it didn't suit you with the coach tickets but you didn't technically not get a chance of a ticket under the current system for this years festival (and I know you'd maximised this chance by being here constantly during early May, being in the relevant threads, getting alerts etc so I'm not saying you didn't try hard enough either), just not the chance of the one you wanted.

I'm not having a go though I know it sounds like I am. But I know you read my story about how we got ours for this year's festival and I'm just saying I reckon it's rare to not get a ticket if you are prepared to do/take anything and if you can't/won't do that it's not the system but your needs that prevent you going.

funnily enough we get the train a lot of the time...im a big supporter of it, i dont drive (well I ride a motorbike) - pity they cant do a deal with the train companies would be a lot more environmental than coaches

Isn't the truth that the people who got tickets are happy and the people that didn't get tickets are unhappy? Broadly speaking.

Fundamentally, whether you choose to accept/believe it or not, the present system is pretty much fair, i.e. essentially random.

No one person deserve tickets more than another person. Those that do probably have them given to them by the festival organisers themselves.

I happy to take on board any decent suggestions but as yet I've seen very few. More phone lines wouldn't be a bad thing but for it to make any significant difference you'd probably have to double or triple them.

Don't know how many phone operators they have now, but how many would you need to even sell 300 a minute on the phone?

I'd guess 300, each transaction would take at least a minute on the phone surely, possible up to 5 minutes if they using another system under strain.

i dont think anyone would say anyone deserves a ticket more than another person (tho personally it does irritate when people who have tickets go on to moan about the line up etc) There was one thread where the OP said they were scared about the rumoured line up!!

Fair enough but the title of the thread "loyalty scheme" kind of implies that to me. Maybe I misinterpret thou.

Anyhow, to be clear, my comments not directed at anyone.

Ticket day is a bit stressful but also quite fun! I think I'd like seetickets capacity reduced a bit so it sells out a tad slower and rewards the determined!

Must admit missing out this Year I did grumble on for a few weeks about there should be some bloody loyalty scheme. Where were those fu**ers in 1992 eh?
