A third way

I've failed to get a coach ticket and I'll probably fail on Sunday.

I've already got a spot litter picking but it's going to be a massive thorn in my side throughout Glastonbury to know I've got to be litter picking at 6am each morning but I'm still going to go and enjoy myself.

I was just thinking shouldn't there be a third way to obtain a ticket? Glasto is a fantastic festival and does wonders for charities and environmental groups and stuff but I feel like my options for going are limited, there should be a third way for people like us who see the thing as completely unmissable to seperate us from the people who fail to get a ticket and just go "oh well I didn't get one"

I'm suggesting they set up a scheme in which people who go above and beyond for one of their charities get first dibs on a ticket. For example I would train and complete a marathon and raise a load of money for one of their charities if it meant I got first dibs on a ticket.

Or Glastonbury themselves could set out assignments for people who would be willing to go that extra mile, for example if they had a scheme and said go and do 20 hours voluntary work for one of our charities or a similar charity in your area and you get first dibs then I'd be up for that.

Just thinking we need to seperate the men from the boys. I did my first glasto last year and feel that it is so great I can never miss another one, and the thought that one day I will probably miss the highlight of my year (considering a year is more than 1% of your life) becuase of "internet traffic" or server issues is depressing and quite simply nonesensical, at the same time it's almost equally troubling that if I don't miss any I'll have litter picking duties at 6am every morning.

With Glastonbury (most festivals in fact) there is more than just a 3rd way, there are dozens. Stewarding, working stalls, site setup, performance or just ligging it.

I'm not going to be buying a ticket this year, but am intending to get there by other means (working)

I got tickets this evening but I had a plan incase I didn't get one today or Sunday, the plan was to set aside upto £1,000 to buy a VIP ticket. I am pressuming these are available if you have the money and I seem to remember reading that you can get them. Is that right?

£1000 for a ticket is mad, you can do at least 5 festivals for that. As good as it is it's not the be all and end all of festival goodness.

I'm also volunteering with the recycling crew, I don't mind 6am get ups as it means a guaranteed ticket, still get to see all the bands, maybe one late night in the 'naughty corner'. I enjoyed Glasto so much last year, I'd actually like to volunteer and give something back to the festival. Hopefully meet some great people who are volunteering, and fingers crossed get nice weather like last year.

All in all I feel so lucky to be able to go and explore new places I didn't get to my first time and just enjoy the whole experience.

I see what you mean about a third option, perhaps volunteering to get priority with tickets prior to the festival to secure priority booking - but then when do you draw the line - 10000 priority tickets 20000? How many people would utilise that incentive to secure a ticket?

I guess the current format is inclusive and gives everyone a fair shot.

I hope everyone gets tickets and there will be more happy people on Sunday :)

The run a marathon or what ever for charity to get a Glastonbury ticket fails on lots of fronts - big overhead on organisers validating its all genuine. If you are going to send the money via the glasto organisers to "prove" it then some rich folk will have a cake sale and produce a couple of grand. How many ppl would be the limit for suchh tickets ? As tough as it is when you dont get a ticket the system in place now is as fair as it gets I think

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
