But why should they have to keep some of the fields closed until Thursday? If some festival goers didn't bring gazebos and/or tents that are way bigger than they need, then there would be more than enough room for everyone!

Because people who cant get on site on Wednesday cant get a decent spot - gazebos make up a tiny proportion of the campsites they make no real difference - as already pointed out by numerous people on this thread - most larger groups have a communal space between tents - gazebo or not.

I'm not suggesting cordoning off huge swathes of the campsites, just a couple of sections so those arriving later dont have to squeeze in around other camps.

We're just going round in circles here, Our camp is going to be the same size, regardless of whether or not we put a gazebo up. We will be also taking it with us when we leave. We will camping in one of the quieter fields were there is plenty of space. We are not antisocial cranks who want to rope off our camp. I really dont see what the problem is?

How is it that a group like ours, where everyone is in a small ish (3mx2m) 3 man tent for 2 people get vilified for wanting a bit of shelter from sun / rain , but its ok for 2 lads or a couple to take a huge 5mx5m tent which has its communal area inside the tent.

But I do hope all you sanctimonious people (especially you Russy) dont break a single rule of Glasto set out in the fine guide : Not a scrap of little be left, not a single spliff be smoked, not a line be snorted, or a gary swallowed. Dont bring a tent bigger than you need and dont dare pee in the bushes.

And whatever you do , dont give yourself any, yes any communal space outside your tents. Not even 1 square metre.

I'm with you badger80, we'll be taking one as we have done for the last 6 festivals. Never had a problem and you get people around you coming to the gazebo to hang out.

Well I don't leave my camp looking like a post apocalyptic mess if thats what you mean, and I find there are plenty of toilets (except at Stone Circle) around the site there is no need to pee in bushes.

Never understood gazebo's at Glastonbury. Why would you want to see with your mates in the cramped tented areas drinking and relaxing when you have the most amazing environment all around you. Go sit, drink and relax with your mates around the stone circle, round by the rabbit hole/tipi areas overlooking the festival, etc, etc. Sitting in the tented area under a gazebo at Glastonbury always reminds me of those folks sat in a layby on an A road having a cup of tea and a packed lunch.

Each to their own I suppose but if people must bring a gazebo, I wish they had a 'gazebo field'.

Drugs are a totally separate issue here and not a valid argument. As tonyblair says they have to make reference to them in order to keep their license.

They don't actually say don't bring drugs in the Fine Guide, they say "Illegal drugs are no more legal on site, than off. There will be police on site.The Festival is not a good time to experiment with drugs"

I would be quite happy to pay an extra few quid on the price of my ticket for the organisers to rent a few more fields so we dont have to camp all crammed in like sardines. I have no desire to camp on Pennards or opposite pyramid, I am quite prepared to walk a little further to have a decent camp with my friends.

I am not at all sure why you are singleing out Russy to vent you anger on people that think you are being unreasonable, he has just pointed out several times that the organisers have asked people not to bring gazebos and that he thinks those who do despite the request are being selfish. It is not just Russy who think that though, there are lots of people on the forum who think the same and that we should try to abide by the organisers wishes, to not respect that is just ignorant. If you want to take a gazebo just do so, but please stop trying to justify it and claiming the organisers are just unreasonable in asking gou politely not to bring them, as it is making you in this thread seem very selfish and ignorant (which other than regarding gazebo's I am sure you are not and are more than likely a very decent chap). Reading through this thread you seem to have a strong opinion on what you want to do makes it right, but have no respect for some others who equally believe they are right in their actions. Your comment about breaking people's taped off areas makes this very clear, yet you seem not to accept that your stance on gazebo's may be equally objectionable to others.

Just try to chill a bit reread through the thread and either not take a gazebo, or just accept you in this case you are going to go against the organisers wishes and selfishly put yourself before them.
