Wax Flares

Just looking at the fine guide and see that wax flares are not allowed.

Am I right in assuming that these are the big candle-like things?

If they're not allowed why are so many traders selling them?

I burned my hand quite badly on one that someone had dropped in 2004.

Had to go to the medical tent every day to get the dressings changed & still have a scar from it.

Didn't affect my enjoyment though and the team in the medical tent were brilliant.

I always bring my own wax flares and have never had an issue with security staff etc asking for them to be put out or taken off me at the gate.

Maybe it's advice for hippies with waxed flared trousers. I think I've been cooped up too long now and am getting cabin fever!

Do they mean the ones that are like a giant canfle on a stick? We bought some on the way up to the stone circle last time.

Only thing with the flares is that you have to put them out if you're going in or out of the pedestrian gates. This happens a lot with people gonig back to their campervans at night. The dreaded elfin safety...

I think they can come in hand held or fire in the air options.

I had a pack of wax candle flares confiscated on the way into the festival a few years ago. They were parcel taped to my tent bag, perhaps I should have concealed them a little better!

Indeed, although I found carrying a flaming bling encrusted tent bag significantly reduced queuing times....

It's the same at the A & E Department. You've got to make the emergency your own and play it as best you can. I was rushed to A & E last Sunday with blood pumping through my fingers from my belly, and looked like a character from Reservoir Dogs. Result - immediate attention. The others who had been queing simply hadn't been imaginative enough in my opinion. I think you may just have played the best hand possible given your situation.
