Blues

I've started listening to classic Blues again recently, wondering if any Blues fans have any recommendations at this years festival?

I went to Sziget last year and pretty much sat at the Blues stage all week. Wouldn't mind doing that again!

I thought the "Blues" stage or whatever it is was mainly DJs this year. So just playing old blues like? I'd love that. Lazy afternoons sitting around listening to Skip James, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf etc.

The blues at Glasto, in that Bourbon St place anyway, was mainly loud honky blues. White blokes doing Mannish Boy really badly and way too loud for me. They should get Buddy Guy back. And Taj Mahal.

I haven't seen any news about a blues stage/venue this year, where did you hear that from? I was so excited the first time I went to the Bourbon St place but in the end I felt the same way about it you do.

A dedicated Blues tent would be fantastic and I'd certainly end up in there a lot.

Good to see another Skip James fan aswell, I always feel he's woefully underappreciated.

Cheers y'all!

It would be nice if they had a tiny stage just playing blues. At Sziget I'd just grab a beer and lay down by the blues stage in the sun and listen to whatever was on. Some good, some bad, some excellent.

I suppose not everyone is a blues fan though haha

The Nal - That radio show sounds excellent so far!

I'd liek some decent blues recommendations too before I go. I'll be excited to see some decent blues.

On a side note, I think Kid Koala's 12 Bit Blues show would work beautifully at Glastonbury. It'd work in the smallest little hub in Shangri La, or on a sunny West Holts stage. It's just perfect for Glasto.

One of my favourite young British Blues guitarists well worth catching (though he's not at Glasto, is Danny Bryant. He tends to play festivals like the Colne Blues Fest and a lot of Germany and Holland where there's a thriving blues scene.

His mentor has been Walter Trout (ex Canned heat./John Mayall etc).

This is Danny's version of the Walter Trout arrangement of Bob Dylan's Girl From The North Country.

Emily says in the NME that reggae area Gully will have "an open-air stage and a street area called The Blues with DJs, MCs and sound systems". With a name like that it's going to attract quite a few confused folk looking for old men with guitars...
