Campervan fields

So I've finally booked a campervan to do Glasto in for the first time and was wondering if anyone has any tips on which side is better?

I'll be coming from London and looking at the maps it looks like East is closer to the gates. Is that right? Does one tend to have a better atmosphere than the other?

go for the campervan fields that are nearest to where you tend to spend your time on site.

Be warned: East is up a steel hill when outside the gates. West is not.

But if you intend spending your time at the Pyramid or JPT then it's a hell of a walk to West.

west has got to be nearer to JPT, surely? Perhaps not as the crow flies, but once you've had to walk around the pyramid crowd (which adds the equivalent of 3 more fields) it's gotta be I reckon.

I probably flit mostly between Jazzworld, Pyramid, Acoustic, Other and The Park. Like to do different stuff each night so West probably still sounds the best bet.

I did West last year as it's closer to stuff I like and there's not The Hill of Death every night. It'll be West for me again this year.

I've only done East before, a couple of queries for those who've done West:

Am I right in thinking there are only a couple of fields in West so you're never far from the gate?

And what's the long walk home from the naughty corner like?

There's only two fields but they're big buggers so if you're in the far side of the furthest field, like we were last year, then it's still a good 10 minutes once you're outside the gate. Might not sound like a lot but after the climb all the way from the other stage.....in the mud......with a kid in a trailer......it was something if a slog!!

Going from the naughty corner, you'd either cut across the stone circle and across the top of the camping fields (sorry not sure of the name) to The Park and up from there, or along the old railway until you're pretty much level with the Other Stage and again up past the Park. Either way it's a fair old trek!

CV West is a very long way from the late night stuff. The only things that it is relatively close to is the Park.

West did seem a long way from everything, except the Park; as Mardy said. Can't say I noticed much of an atmosphere - but the rain might have had something to do with that. It is a long old drag up to West; not too steep, but it does go on.

Took us 2 hours to walk to the furthest cv west field from the pyramid stage after U2 last time round!!! Mud and driving rain was horrendous

Cheers all, sounds like it'll be back to East again for us, I just hope we're not too far from the gate. I know there is a family area which is fairly close, do you actually have to have kids with you to go in there? Although I'd probably feel a bit of a cheat going in there without them!

The car parking stewards do tend to check if you have kids before directing you to the family campervan area.

Looks like it's going to be East then. West just seems to be too far away. A two hour trek from the Pyramid is mental!

We're probably not going to get there until quite late on the Tuesday night as West has fewer fields do you think we'd end up closer to the festival by opting for that one? We tend to try and go to a good few of the stages and without knowing the headliners who knows where we'll end up so I can't really make a decision based on that.
