I went to Download the year SOAD played mostly to see that saturday lineup and was disappointed with System. Didn't look like they even wanted to be there. Set started well but it just faded and I got bored. People around me went from going nuts to just listening. I left just before the end and some drunker people looked like they were having a good enough time. I'm in no rush to see them again. I can say I have and that's enough.

Biffy have been excellent every time I've seen them. From supporting RHCP to last year at Download, they've gotten better and better.

Well it seem pretty much the opposite from where I was in the crowd for SOAD. Great atmosphere and people going mental all the way through the set. By far and away the biggest crowd of the weekend too. I personally thought they looked well up for it on stage. Lots of interaction between all band members.

As for biffy at download last year, I think they were totally let down by the majority if the crowd. Probably the worse atmosphere I've seen for them out of the 6 times that I have seen them. They didnt play particularly badly it just seems the crowd were not up for them.

On the biffy appearance. I hope they don't have the stupid delay cameras they had set up for their download set. The screens were about 3 seconds behind what they were actually doing on the stage. I didn't particularly like the in face camera shots they were broadcasting from their mic stands either. They can however keep the pyro and air blasters went wel with the songs.

Thought the pyro etc was brilliant... hope they keep that going... they seem to have had some great stage set ups over the last couple of years... would be nice if they got some live strings also since they use them on quite a bit of their music.

So you've never wanted to see a band more than once? Yeah some of the people at Download won't have been impressed by them, and some of those that were may not want to go to R+L, but I'm not sure how you can say that the amount that would want to see them again would be insignificant. It may well be in peoples minds that the band may not stay together, so you may find that there are people who would jump at the chance of seeing them again while they still can.

I was saying that there was nothing in the SOAD performance that would put anyone off seeing them again. Unless someone doesn't like their music anyway, but then I doubt they would have been watching them (especially with Alice Cooper on at the same time). You seemed to be suggesting that only a small proportion of the people who saw them would consider going to Reading/Leeds if SOAD played there, which doesn't really make much sense.

I wasn't saying that everyone watching was a SOAD fan, but a lot of those that loved it tended to be those who hadn't seen them before when they were at their best. I just didn't understand your original point about insignificant numbers or something...

I can't believe we're arguing about whether all, some or none of SOAD's Download crowd enjoyed it and would buy a ticket for R&L, enjoyed it and wouldn't buy a ticket for R&L, didn't enjoy it but would buy a ticket for R&L or didn't enjoy it and wouldn't buy a ticket for R&L, and all in a Biffy thread. How the hell is there ever going to be a satisfactory answer to that?

    • f**king horrendous and seems they couldn’t run an egg and spoon race.  zero info and the crush waiting to get in to see Massive Attack was potentially disasterous. Zero info, no stewards at all and was told that the whole evening was cancelled, when we got to the exit. Because it rained. First time attendee and i’ve got onsay, i’m far from impressed. Scalping bastard taxis asking €37 plus for an €11 fare too. Wonderdul.
    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
