...are you being serious? if they played, they'd have to be on Pyramid or pushing it, Other. when they played Rockness, they were on the second stage, a tent, and they had to remove the walls of the tent to accommodate the 30,000+ people who were attempting to watch them. that was in 2007. it's now six years later, and the absence has definitely made the heart grow fonder as their fanbase has risen hugely

Its also six years later with no new music - You have to look who they was up against at Rockness

They were as popular back then as well.

All the "a band isn't a band without a guitar" folk will be elsewhere, and yes they would take a fair bit of the crowd from the Stones - but even as a huge fan of Daft Punk it would be a hard decision of who to see.

I'm sorry but they just won't play a 7000 person tent, against anyone - it wouldn't make sense for them to. Pretty much any other festival in the uk would have them as headliner if they wanted to be and they'd pay far more than glasto. If they're not the act major fest organisers (emily, rob da bank etc) get asked about most they're definitely up there.

Two years ago everyone was crying out for Justuce aswell! How that they would at least headline the Other Stage - and where did they end up? In the Big Top at Bestival (i love Justice too)

How about Kraftwerk? One of the most talked about bands on the forum and press this year and one of the most influential ever - yet still they are headlining a tent at T in the Park

Some times electro dance acts just prefer tents ( apart from Wireless - look at the festival venues they've played over the years) - most you will find are in tents

Justice aren't nearly on the same level as Daft Punk, though, and Kraftwerk aren't nearly mainstream enough to headline a major festival (plus haven't released anything in ten years). and a lot of acts prefer tents, but there comes a time when they get too big and have to move to outdoor main stages. IF Daft Punk do play Glastonbury, it'll be headlining the Pyramid, or at a push, a very big Other stage headliner (and will in turn need a massive Pyramid headliner opposite them to split the crowd. when they played Rockness they were up against Manic Street Preachers and i'm pretty sure the majority of the festival were watching Daft Punk)

Kraftwerk are a major influence of Daft Punk - just listen to Aerodynamik or Robots! How can they not be as mainstream when they have had the most Hard to get tickets of the current year and a Number 1 hit in the pop charts in the past - something that I don't believe DaftPunk ever achieved! So don't go down the mainstream route! Even Coldplay have covered Kraftwerk!

As much as I would love to see Daft Punk on the Pyramid, and there is no doubt they would get a huge crowd - a lot of people would be there for curiosity of the live show and not because of their back catalogue!

I really think Daft Punk would choose the stage they feel most comfortable on, and what's to say their stage show will be the same as in the past?

Daft Punk would be a huge headliner.

I think you are underestimating their fan base and word of mouth about their live shows is huge.

Kraftwerk are ridiculously influencial and I would def go and see them but the tent would be a better option.

Yesterday daft punk released a picture and this small fact was reported by some fairly major music media outlets (the nme for a start). Would justice (and i'm a big fan of them too) doing the same really have that effect?

Daft punk are influenced by kraftwerk, no doubt about it, but it doesn't mean they have the same level of mainstream popularity at the moment. I'd say more of a younger fest crowd would have got into kraftwerk via daft punk than the other way around.

I'd love either but i can't see the eavi allowing dp on such a small stage for safety concerns, even if the act wanted it.

Most of the younger crowd would go and see S.H.M or Example over Kraftwerk or Daft Punk.

Yes NME did put a story about the website change, but I know personally that a lot of people that work for NME hadn't even been to a gig before, the last time Daft Punk toured - so like a lot of people on here (and there is nothing wrong with this as they were probably too young or hadn't jumped on the festival/gig bandwagon) they have seen the photos, video footage of the last stage show and are hyping it up for there own sake.

Ask the people on here that have seen Daft Punk before if they would be choosing Daft Punk over anything else and they would probably say - it would be good to see them but they would rather have Rolling Stones, Kraftwerk, David Bowie or Wham! The Stage show is a novelty that will be seen past after probably the first track. In the other Daft Punk thread there was a lot of debate about whether or not they are bigger enough for the Pyramid stage

They are a massive dance act, but they really don't have a bigger pull than the likes of the Chemical Bros, The Prodigy or other big 90's dance acts - all who have played in Tents at major UK festivals over the last few years, just a lot more anticipated hype.

I have seen Daft Punk live before and I would still choose to go and see them over the acts that you mention in your previous post.

What you also fail to mention is that acts like S.H.M and Example are absolutely dreadful and I don't know anyone that like Daft Punk that would also be into those two absolute showers.

The fact is that Daft Punk very rarely tour which makes any festival appearence a massive deal, you can't put them in the same bracket as the Chems or Prodigy because they are always touring, so they would definitely have a much larger pull than those, I remember the clamour for tickets for the Chemical Brothers roundhouse shows when they released 'Further' and the gap between that and We Are The Night was only 3 years - Daft Punk on the other hand released Human After All in 2005 and haven't toured since 2007, the interest is there and the new album is one of the most anticipated amongst the musical press for a long time.

Whether you are a fan of Daft Punk or not any spot that wasn't headlining either Pyramid or Other is unrealistic

Derezzed was given out as a 'single' top anyone who pre-ordered the album so not a single as such, they did then release it as a limited edition picture disk as part of Record Store Day.

I'm not doubting the popularity of S.H.M I think what I am trying to say is that the type of person that would go and get tickets for one of their shows is unlikely to be one of the same people waiting expectantly for Daft Punk to tour. I appreciate that at the moment there are acts that are able to sell out their own shows and in huge numbers but I would hazard that Daft Punk at the moment and with the amount of hype surrounding their return could sell out several Hyde Park shows fairly quickly.

I think that the Wireless show was one of a few shows they did in the UK and it was this run of shows that cemented their place at the very top of a lot peoples must sees - but those same people won't have been given the opportunity to see them because once that tour was done it was done.

I agree with what you're saying Matt. But if for the purpose of the discussion, if they were to headline the new dance tent on the Saturday night, up against the Rolling Stones and another big name on the Other stage that would appeal to the younger crowd such as SHM would that be a divide that would make it ok for them to headline the tent? Like I say if you look at the last tour it appears they prefer to play in tents.

Did Rockness sell out instantly because Daft Punk and why were they not on the main stage?

I think the likeliness of them selling out more that one or two shows max at Hyde Park again would depend on where else they had announced shows - the same thing has happened with Kraftwerk this year - having only announced the catalogue tour initially in Düsseldorf and London people travelled from all over the Europe/world to see them thinking it was a one off. A similar thing has happened to the Knife's comeback tour at the roundhouse.

the organisers of Rockness were criticised for not having Daft Punk on the main stage because, as i said, almost the entire festival tried to squeeze into the tent they played in and it was a massive safety risk

if they went up against the Stones it;d have to be on Other. they would still get a huge crowd regardless. hell, i'd probably go see Daft Punk over the Stones and i love the Stones. that's not going to happen this year, though, and if Daft Punk were to headline Other they'd need a band as huge as the Stones (i.e. Bowie, Prince) to go up against them to attempt to divide the crowd

they won't play in a tent at a festival again, unless it's some huge, arena sized tent. Rockness was a prime example of why it's a stupid idea. they headlined Coachella, and they can headline Glastonbury

I seen Daft Punk at Rockness and in Paris on the Alive 2007 tour, genuinly still the best thing I've seen live at a gig.

Rockness they were the headliners but asked to play in the tent, I've never seen queues like it to get in several hours before, they ended up taking down the tent walls so the thousands outside could see. I felt sorry for the Manic Street Preachers that day.

I'm pretty sure they won't play Glasto, bit I think it would be a dangerous decision to put them in a tent if they did play, even with huge acts on elsewhere, the attendance numbers at Glasto are frickin huge!
