Hello you lovely people,

it's just under 3 weeks away until Glastonbury's gates open and I'm in a right pickle.

I lost my job 2 weeks ago and was praying that I'd find another pretty quickly (which I didn't).

I have no savings at all and I'm absolutely skint, I have no money what so ever to go to Glastonbury with nevermind all of the things I need to buy before setting off to Somerset. I was hoping that you fantastic people could possibly give me some advice on how I can do Glastonbury with no money or ways that i can get money quickly I've racked me brain and I'm no closer to finding a solution.

Glastonbury can be done very cheaply. I'm not sure about with 0 money, but you can get free food from the Hare Krishna tent, which comprises of very tasty veggie curries.

As for ways to make money quickly, what state are your kidneys in?

Garage sale or get yourself to a boot fair this weekend and the next?

Sell some stuff on Ebay.

I once partfunded a G with selling my CD collection.

Selling stuff on ebay is a good way. I sold a few records last year to help my funding (Anti War Dub by Digital Mystikz is now worth about £130. Nearly double what I sold it for. Gutted).

Another (slightly risky way) is to do a balance transfer from your credit card. If you get a job soon you'll get away with little to no interest, but if you don't it can start to get 'spensive.

I survived Bestival last yr on £20! we got robbed on the 1st day, people we camped next to did a whip around and saved us thank you if your reading...

Basically raid your mums cupboards take food n booze with you, (luckly we'd done a shop on the way to the festival so had some food bits) We found fried egg buns being sold for a £1 had one good meal a day, Didn't buy any drinks as had Vokda and beers with us

It can be done and your have just a good time as the people spending stupid ammounts of money at the bars and on silly hats

May want to do your research into sites like Instant Cash Loans like Wonga.com as I know nothing about them, but still could be useful. Depending of course how long it would take you to get money to pay them back.

Course your best option would be to start flogging some of your posessions quick time.

My advice is sell anything you have that you genuinely can do without - i have all my music on my ipod and backed up on a harddrive so selling the CD's wasnt too bad..

do you have transport booked?

I'm doing glastonbury on a pretty low budget this year but i have already booked my travel etc. so its just food and booze for the duration... the hare krishna's do free food, and lots of things are cheap to eat you just have to hunt around...

if you need any stuff to take with you try freecycle etc. you might get lucky!

Have you got your transport sorted? If not, get on the carshare forum.

The Hare Krishnas will help you eat; even in your impoverished state, you might still want to make a small donation.

You don't *have* to drink anything but water.

Borrow camping equipment from friends/family if you can. Try Freecycle too.

You could literally do it on £0.

For £21 a day you could eat three hearty full-price meals a day!

if you have a fancy mobile they can sometimes be worth quite a bit of money - you could perhaps see if you can sell it and then buy yourself one of those £15 crappy ones that come with £10 of credit (for emergency texts to your mates while at the fest)

I assume you've thought through your options for borrowing from people you know but consider that people can be more understanding about the need for a good break than you might first imagine.

If you could get a few people to lend you £10 each even it would make difference

when is your birthday - any chance of convincing anyone to chip in for an early birthday (or even christmas present - on the promise that you'll remind them at the time and really not expect anything when the time comes!)

ps - where do you have to come from, do you have your travel sorted? would get on the liftshare if not and see if anyone would accept an exchange instead of cash?

Also, some of the cafes will give you a free meal for an hour's washing up etc

and they're looking for extra recyling folk on the main website - 3 shifts i think and you get a couple of meals free (and possibly your ticket money back after the festival, which would help you out! - haven't actually read the ad)

Get a job washing cars. Everyone goes carwash crazy in June and some tip well.

If you can find place that does the "pound per 3 minutes" or whatever, tell them it'll be three pounds, do it fast, using only two pounds, and hold out for a pound tip.

I did this when I was about 16 and used to clean up.

i'm in london and 'recycled' a tent on monday evening at last year's festival for a friend. turned out she didn't need it when i got it back to london so if you need one and are able to come get it somewhere in london then you're welcome to use it and keep it

I agree with the eBay comments. I did a clear out ages ago, really strange things I had lying around would get surprising prices:

Lemon Jelly CD - £40

A3 Supergrass poster for a gig at my students' union - £30

Battery for an MP3 player - £10

Phone chargers - £5

I managed to get about £300 from my clearout. I reckon anyone could make about £100 minimum from junk / unnecessary stuff that they have in their room / flat. Also make sure you do your research and charge sensible postage and packing prices. (e.g. for a poster, factor in the cost of a poster tube, take it to your post office and find out how much they'd charge to send it to the UK). If you're going to wrap stuff well, let people know, so that they understand why you may be charging £2- £3 postage.

Also

- DON'T GO OUT until Glasto. If you were planning on going out, even just down to the pub, don't. That way you'll save money towards Glasto itself.

- AVOID payday loan companies / balance transfers etc. You will end up in a world of trouble and pay extortionate fees. It may seem like an easy option now, but it really, really isn't. These guys will trash your credit record if you're a day late, and that shafts you for the next six years.

- STOP smoking (that is, if you do smoke). NHS can give you plenty of free stop-smoking aids.

sorry for multiple posts - need to think about this and put it all into one really. cds seem to be the obvious choice, but if you can't do that:

loyalty cards - do you use any of these? do you have points on anything that you could use to get a few beers, or some hangover cures etc from boots?

info points - give out free loo roll and suncream

unused gift tokens etc - might be able to find someone who will buy them from you for slightly less than face value?

expanding on the car washing suggestion above - mowing gardens or babysitting?

certainly sounds like you could make some hard cash sherpa-ing from the car parks to the campsites, but i'm not sure how the festival would view this?

What about selling nitrous at the festival? I'm unsure of the legality of this so please consider this an idea rather than advice, but someone i know did this last year and funded his festival on it.
