I think there's a certain amount of that, yes.

Sometimes it feels like it's almost 'obligatory' to hate certain bands or artists.

For the most part, I would rather listen to and appreciate a piece of music/a song, and rate it on its own merits, regardless of what genre it's from, or whether it's 'fashionable' to like them or not.

If someobody you work with who you think is a bit of a c**t is a fan of a band, you're going to be less pleasantly disposed to them. Conversely, if someone you love raves about some music, you're more likely to give it a proper go

And thats great for Lilly it really is, and it was a sad story but its got nothing to do with her previous music output...Its what wrong with artists like this they are celebrities first before artists.

eh? that makes no sense to me at all. You're saying you would base your appreciation/critique on a particular band/song based on what someone you do/don't like thinks of it? That sounds like 'following the crowd' to me?

I listen to the music first. What someone else does/doesn't think of it wouldn't colour my opinion of it. I'd also go as far to say that even if I think the person creating that media is a bit of a twonk that wouldn't stop me appreciating a quality tune..to a point.... like for example I think casablancas is an arrogant, self involved twat but I won't deny the strokes have some quality soundage- if I liked him more as a person I would probably appreciate his music a little more, yes- but I can still appreciate his talent.

She has the same talent that Jordan has, i.e. the ability to make some people interested in her and her life. She can retire from music as she is now a 'celebrity' much the same as Jordan and the other people you see daily in the tabloids. Her music is (was) nonsensical pop no better (or worse) than the Cheeky Girls, it's a bit depressing that so many Glasto goers seem to think she is of some worth and the gushing from Eavis in the article above is pretty sickening.

As long as she's not playing in place of someone I actually like I couldn't give a shit what she's doing there. Can't stand her music.
