Top Five Glasto Tips - things you always do/take

Not who to see, where to see it or where is best, just handy hints to make the festie easier / better :

For me, the following things are essential :

1. Take two or three EMPTY 500ml water bottles - loads on site, so fill up whilst wandering. You need the container, but not the weight in the luggage. Drink at least 250ml water for each pint / short.

2. Baby Wipes - absolutely essential.

3. Don't EVER buy anything from an ice cream van   :ph34r::ph34r:

4. Take an FM Radio - nothing better than worthy FM in the morning.

5. If it rains (which it won't B) ) then don't instantly wrap up when two drops hit you - so many do, but shorts & a T shirt dry out in seconds, and should do in all but torrential rain. You are dry bone, whilst all the sweaty people are still removing layer # 6

1) Earplugs and Eyemask, essential to helping you sleep at night / in the morning.

2) Take spirits to cut down on the weight of alcohol, you can buy mixers there.

3) An empty Lenor bottle can be used as a toilet during the night, rather than staggering across guy-ropes to the long drops in the early hours.

4) Dress up for the /index.php?showtopic=150682&hl=fancy%20dress%20friday&st=0">Nerd Convention Fancy Dress Friday.

5) It gets cold at night, carry a hoodie and trousers in your daysack to save a trip back to the tent.

  1. Three square meals a day, ensuring you never settle for a crappy burger/etc. That way you get to taste a variety of the wonderful foods on offer, and keep your energy levels up. Try to get a decent amount of veg/salad in at least one of the meals, because (for me at least) eating crap catches up on your health quickly.

  2. Don't be a slave to plans, and reserve plenty of time for aimlessness. The last thing you want is to drag yourself away from something amazing, just because a schedule you made in the morning says you should be dashing somewhere else.

  3. Take a cheap mobile phone and some charged spare batteries

  4. Put your socks, underwear, loo paper, and anything else you can in ziplock freezer bags to stay dry.

  5. It can feel like you have to fill every moment with entertainment. Don't be afraid to just chill from time to time.

1. Always have a bit of bog roll on you, even if it's just half a roll squashed into a bag pocket. Never know when you're going to be caught short.

2. Print out a couple of copies of the map/clashfinder, leave at least one of each in your bag.

3. Scatter your cans of beer/cider throughout your tent, makes them harder to steal, also makes for a nice surprise when you think you've ran out, then find a few hidden ones towards the end.

4. If possible, try to position your tent immediately west of a gazebo - it will shade you from the morning sun. I found this out by accident last year, managed to have a cool lie-in every morning.

5. Empty inflated perry cider bags make great pillows.

Hand sanitiser, essential!

4 pint milk container, allows at least 3 during the night pisses

Gavilast, 12 hour releaf from heartburn . An absolut godsend take one every morning as par for the course.

Wet wipes , loads of them use them for so many things, freshening up, cleaning hands/ arse/ toilet seats etc

Plenty spirits, always struggle at the end of the night with volume of beer/cider etc, spirits with coke, redbull etc allow the energy levels to come up a bit for the late night

(1) Pocket tissues as loo roll. They stay neat and dry in your pocket/bag no matter what the weather.

(2) Look after your feet! Think how many pairs of socks you might need and double it. If it is a wet year, you can go through alot of socks. If you can afford to - bring brand new socks because the feeling of putting them on knackered feet is just brilliant. Also - bring hard skin cream, foot cooling gel, foot talc, those special compeed blister plasters, and anything else you can think of. You will be on your feet alot so be kind to them and they will reward you. (You can decant stuff to save on weight).

(3) A whole roll of bin bags - too many uses to mention but to kick off - for your rubbish obviously, to bung dirty/wet clothes in, to ensure stuff stays dry in case of a leaky tent, an emergency poncho, something very easy to carry to sit on if it's wet, emergency tent repairs...

(4) gaffa tape - for emergency tent or clothing repairs....and loads of other things around camp. Our gaffa tape has helped us make friends with struggling neighbours as many times as it's rescued us.

(5) I have to repeat the lenor bottle thing - it has transformed my Glastonbury! There is nothing worse than just getting snuggled down in your tent and realising that nagging feeling that yes you do want the loo, and it is the other side of the field. Or waking up in the morning and really wanting to stay in bed for a bit longer but knowing your bladder is going to make you get up, and dressed, and out across that field again! The neck is wide enough that with practised technique this one is not just for the boys! So worth it!

Great tip about the gazebo shade btw! Everyone in a group has to not tell their friends if they really want that spot!

1. Bring premixed spirits in bottles as oppose to tins. They're lighter, don't taste as disgusting warm and the bottles can be used for water after.

2. Bring gaffa tape. Anyone who's been to Glasto before will know that there's empty nitrous canisters lying around everywhere. A fun way to recycle these is by getting some gaffa and taping them together to make guns and robots and stuff. It's awesome. Obviously gaffa can also be used to fix tent poles, rips in canvases, holey shoes, open wounds, split bags, Gazebos etc etc etc

3. Socks. Bring double the amount of socks you need.

4. Save some money for the Sunday. Having been on a 4 day bender I always get mega hungry on the Sunday so I make sure I save enough money to be able to drag my self to a nice food place and get some grub :)

5. Make friends with the people around you, chances are they're going to be brilliant and most likely would like to be friends with you too + if they see someone that isn't you going into your tent they'll be all like

do's

1) wet wipes - damned essential

2) water in the tent - always

3) only 2 change of main clothes - but tons of extra under-kegs!

4) spirits in plastic bottles

5) bananas - they give you easy energy and they taste oh so good.

dont's

1) leave things in baggy pockets when visiting toilets - many a thing droppeth from pocket to poo!

2) buy expensive sunglasses - they WILL get ruined

3) try and eat tons in one go thinking it will last you the whole day - it wont, you will need more.

4) run out of phone battery - buy one of those AA charger thingies! - they are a god send.

5) be a dick and steal anything from anyone. If I catch you I'm gonna rip you a new one.

As well as the obvious

1. loo essentials (I'm counting them as one point) dry tissues, cleaning wipes & hand sanitizer. Sitting on a clean seat always makes a trip to the loo much nicer than it could be and the sanitizer saves you from queuing again to wash your hands.

2. A small bag to fit your bare essentials that you keep under your head/in your sleeping bag, a guy in fact came into our tent last year, but I sat up and he left with nothing <_<

3. Spare phone batteries, all my friends phone batteries died within the first few days whilst mine was on full the whole time cause I had 2 extra. you can get them stupidly cheap off the internet.

4. Pen and a sheet of paper, instead of flicking through the guide to find out what time a bands on and when they are done, I write it out on a small piece of paper and carry it everywhere.

5. Try and make the effort to go to the Harikrishna (sorry for spelling) for dinner, saves me from the expensive food stalls, they give you generous portions so it'll last you a while, they use biodegradable plates and forks so it's easier to recycle and best of all it's free (unless you are lovely and give them some change). My friends find the meals bland and don't like the look of them but I love it.

    • I see, well even if they aren't on sale it's still not a disaster sales wise, it's not like they are struggling to sell a half capacity areana
    • Blue dot wouldn’t be a thing if Ticketmasters dynamic pricing went down as well as up, it proves that the dynamic pricing was just a scam to make more money rather than something that moved with the market supply/demand.
    • I agree that we’ll never really know up until the concert happens (and even then we still may not know) but I think promoters are having to come up with new tactics to combat ‘blue dot fever’ (already hating that phrase!) and trying to imply that concerts are selling better than they actually are / available tickets are in short supply is definitely one of them.    To add though, it is quite common at the O2 Arena for the rear blocks to not go on sale (and then remain closed for the concert and covered over to hide the empty seats). And equally common for standing to sell out first, then side/lower tier seating next and rear/upper tier seating last.    Jungle’s two concerts at the O2 are a good comparison for this - for their 1st (announced) date, all blocks are on sale and seats in all sections remain unsold, whereas for their 2nd date, the rear blocks are greyed out (more so than for Muse) and equally lots of seats remain unsold in the blue blocks. Standing for both concerts are showing as sold out.
    • MGK can and should headline. I was at one of his shows earlier in the year as a very casual fan, and there were a lot of alt people there. The show was actually class and he completely won me over. Anyone who opposes him headlining is just a gatekeeper imo, we need to move with the times.
