If anyone wants to download a free live album of Coldplay they're giving away one on their website. Well worth a listen for free.

Also, just been watching some of their live video's on youtube and this one made me laugh 2:55 onwards, unfortunately can't see him having the space to do that at glastonbury!

Just realised there hasn't been a Coldplay thread this year.

Again they're another band I've got no malice against, their 3rd album was pretty awful but I was bang into the first 2 when they came out. Not really bothered with Viva La Vida that much other than the Lost Jay-Z collab which I loved.

It'll be them or Big Boi on the saturday night.

I used to be against them, for the usual reasons -- Radiohead lite, mainstream masquerading as indie, all that. And for all the obvious euphoria-inducing tactics. And I really hate Yellow.

But a few singles snuck into my sphere of consciousness that I have a grudging respect for. Clocks. God Put A Smile Upon My Face. The Scientist. These are out of the ordinary compositions.

... and a friend who I really trust tells me that if I saw them live, I'd love them.

So I'm tempted. I do still have latent feelings of hostility. Yellow's a hard thing to forgive.

I have seen them live a few times. Reebok, MEN and LCC and every-time imho they were fantastic. I for one can't wait to see them again. They have a solid back catalogue of great songs and I'm sure they will not disappoint. It's a pity they clash with the Chems as I love them also but for me it is no contest that night.

2) Another friend assured me that if I saw The Boss, I'd buy every album the week after Glastonbury - he was wrong, I gave it half an hour and then went to see Jarvis

Yeh spot on.

I dont really like them, but I dont really dislike them. They are probably the most average band in history. Even chris martin isnt overly irritating like, say, bono.

It's hard to lift yourself out of the utter apathy to say anything about them, good or bad.

I reckon if I watched them I'd walk away and say "that was quite nice"

I imagine the gig will be completely forgotten about by 99% of the people who go and watch them by 1st July.

They get a pretty bad rap from most people, but their first two albums were quality. Sure, they sold out a bit with the third, but I've got friends who wont even entertain the idea of listening to any of it.

Shame really, because they've missed out on some pretty good music (more noteably on the first album, granted).

I've never really understood the absue that's aimed at Coldplay.

Cracking first album and brilliant follow-up.

Always seem like pretty decent blokes and also make an effort with things like Oxfam, Fair Trade and Make Poverty History.

I know they're never going to appeal to the cool kids but I always find it odd that bands like The Strokes and Arcade Fire attract a level of praise that Coldplay don't (as has been mentioned they haev some excellent songs)

They put on a great set in 2005 (off the top of my head I couldn't tell you who the other headliners were that year) and I'm sure they will again.

Final point must be that ME seems to love them (they once got him out of a hole with the show he puts on for locals) and that's good enough for me.
