The riflemans / campervan fields

So, yeah, I've got a cunning plan about staying the Tuesday night in the CV fields by going in in my parent's campervan. Pitch up there for the night, then move into the festival proper on Tuesday morning. The queue from West CV into the festival should be minimal on Weds morning

But I was thinking I;d quite like to slope off to the Rifleman's for a pint or two on the Tuesday night, maybe meet some of you (if I've got the bottle and that)

Thing is, if I do that, how will I get back into the CV fields? Not going to happen is it? Bugger.

Dont think so. We were thinking of doing the same thing but cant see it happening. Pain in the arse getting from the camper fields to the riflemans and back for the sake of a few pints. Riflemans closes early too.

Plenty of people who will be at the Riflemans on the Tuesday night will be staying near the site at Ashcombe or elsewhere and so sharing a taxi back to the site isn't going to cost much :)

Having (quite a few) tinnies in the carpark tues night was actually alotta fun. Great atmosphere...real anticipation in the air. Wouldn't mind trying the riflemans this year for a few tho. Is a taxi ride required from the west carparks?

Yeah defo. Its not at all walkable. Glastonbury town isn't actually as near the festie site as people think. Its 6 or 7 miles away.

Ive got a taxi on the Wednesday morning for the last few years from Glastonbury town. Its great. Theres a “taxi only route” which takes about 10 minutes and same on the way back. Getting in and out of the site is easy via taxi.

Mardy, how about this plan?

get your campervan all set up for the night, then pack a sleeping bag, pillow and maybe a sleep mat into a ruck sack then walk over to Ashcombe Farm. You should be able to blag your way out. There is about 20 efesters camping at Ashcombe Farm. I should be there mid afternoon on the Tuesday and I am using my 5 man tent as a common sleep area that night. Two years ago there was around 6 of us slept in there.

Anyway, there are a load of us taxi-ing to the Riflemans and back again. In the morning, simply take a lovely slow walk back on to site, grinning like a Cheshire cat at the cars queuing in, knowing you are already set up.

Mobile numbers to exchanged later in you fancy the plan.

Make sure your campervan is in East then or you'll have a long walk all the way back out through Blue Route and all the way around to Red Route as you can't just walk from one side to the other, security won't let you.

Whenever I need to do any late night pub-commuting, I always take my bicycle. Nothing beats cycling home under the stars, drunk. Technically illegal, but in practice the police leave you alone as they can't breathalyse you so it's harder to prove. Doesn't affect your driving license regardless. Plus, you'll probably find some paths and bridleways if you look.

Ayup Staberdine.

Did you get a taxi last year?

If so did you order one or just stroll to the rank out of the farm turn right 400yrds roughly.

What was the price like? I got a quote in advance that was a horror :(

Blagged a lift in chocscoffers van (thanks Sam). :D

Toying with the idea of chucking the pushbikes in the van to cycle in this year unless the taxis are priced ok.

cheers
