Thursday Night

Nobody has mentioned Thursday night opening, we are assuming that the site will be open? I'm not bothered if there are bands, just getting too old/lazy/slow for the friday drive/get tent up/rush to see bands.

Will we be having another announcement maybe next week? I am hoping for some Wave Pictures, Allo Darlin, Paul Thomas Saunders, a big name, and then the usuals, Brakes, Darren Haymen and HRH/Jarvis dj set??? Plus the 8 unsigned bands, who I always enjoy finding out about, getting excited about and then discovering that they clash wih my must sees!

Am going to spend the day trying to avoid any mention of the thing tomorrow x

I like the idea of arriving a day early, so it's not such a rush to get set up when the festival starts proper. And last years bonus acts were a, erm, bonus. There's only so much I've got to say to my friends. Mind you, I did actually find myself missing most of Willy Mason's set due to erecting (My tent! You filthy lot!)

Anyway, as I've already said elsewhere, Public Enemy to headline on Thursday night.

I could do Adam Buxton's evolving piss-takes on the Theme of 'Like a G6' or whatever that bollocks is! For anyone who hasn't heard them on the 6M show/podcast, they're very funny.

I'm very excited about the Thursday night - having a 'proper' Thursday night at Latitude last year made it a significantly more 'complete' event for me (please excuse my misuse of an absolute).

Yes, I too need an announcement very soon. I know that Brakes are writing/recording their new record so fingers crossed they'll maintain their EoTR record to showcase new material.

But more than anything it means extra time with you lot. And I'm not taking the mickey - despite your treasonable republicanism, Sue my sweet. Land of Hope and Glory for me, tomorrow!

I haven't yet seen anyone consider the possiblity that Jarvis might do more than a DJ turn this year, given that Pulp are playing just about everywhere else this summer?

I'd be more than happy with a Pulp/Jarvis set on Thursday evening, would be a great nostalgia trip! :D

I am, actually, Wacko!

It's so lazy and easy to take the disgruntled common man party line, supposedly raging against the bourgeoisie, whilst actually buying into 90% of it either covertly or naively.

I find no problem in marrying socialist and egalitarian ethos with the symbolic presence of a constitutionally and consequentially irrelevant group of people, contradictory though it might seem.

As I have argued to many this week, I am not a 'royalist' nor a 'monarchist'. But what I am is a patriot and fiercely proud of being 'British' with all its meanings. So little galvanises the population of this increasingly disparate nation into a state of collective celebration that if a couple of toffs in an open-top carriage can do it then I say hang out the bunting. The constant erosion of any sense of community and national identity is something that saddens me more and more with each passing year. My sister-in-law, a very normal Yorkshire lass, is camping on the Mall tonight with her 9 and 7 year old daughters and it'll be indescribably exciting for them and provide memories that will last a lifetime.

This is not a symbol of hate, intolerance or division. It is rather beautiful and it is our flag. I suffer not from split personality, but split nationality, having been born in Canada, raised in Britain but lived and spent much time in the former. However I consider myself at least, if not more, British as Canadian. Canadians are proud of their flag, their people, their identity. That Britons are increasingly not is such a shame. So yes, we're having a street party, hanging out bunting and having fun! And the faux-Trots can stuff it!

It's actually not if you live in a society that accepts something like this (I've had to argue my position a few times this week) and I don't buy into any of this shit. Let them have their wedding - just don't make me celebrate it specially.

And while there maybe advantages of a wedding that brings the country together, it doesn't necessarily. it polarizes a lot of people once again.

Fair point. I don't becry the wedding (i'm not a fan of the monarchy though and i wouldn't want to unite behind it) I just find stuff like that mind-nuimbingly dull.

Anyway, let's leave it at that. Glad you enjoyed it and let's stop hijacking the thread. I can't wait for the feeling of unity on the thursday night. ;)

I don't intend arguing the point cos, as intelligent adults, we're BOTH entitled to our opinions - I won't deny you yours, I hope you won't deny me mine.

You rightly gave us yours - but I find the whole psychophantic tosh to be sickening.

There ARE more people who share your view of inherited rule and wealth - there is, however, a growing minority that share my view, including your teenage son (perhaps)!!!!

There is a very informed arguement going on in DISCUSSIONS on this matter, you may find a platform there..........

I just dislike the overblown wedding thing full stop! My next wedding will have to include 5,000 guests and some f***ing good bands.

Hope you had a good day and party Ben x

Back to topic....thanks Geof

Has there been any announcement on the Thursday night festivities as of yet? A few of us were saying on another thread that we hope it is surprise artists/bands again as Willy Mason and Isobel Campbell were great last year.

Operator error - doh!

Love it if they put on a 'secret' Thursday line up again - 2010 was brilliant!

I tweeted Darren Haymen to see if he was playing as i loved his (and AD's) Thursday night set last year so much. He said 5 years in a row was probably enough...Maybe we should get a petition to ensure his return!

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
