TiVo

So now it is launced to it's existing customers and new customers, anyone planning on getting it?

Got mine installed today, went easily enough considering it was the guys 1st install. Took 45 minutes and that was including swapping my old V Box upstairs with the V+ the TiVo is replacing.

My first impressions are it's an amazing piece of kit, still playing about with all the features/apps and seeing what it all does.

Was reading there is a few small bugs with the EPG data but things are being fixed all the time.

I put a 'Festival' Wishlist search in and it found all sorts of stuff for me to view :D

3 tuners too, so can record 3 channels at once which should eliminate any recording clashes ie when at Glastonbury :)

Its 3 tuners! I heard it was only record 2 and watch one of those 2, which would be worse than my current V+ where you can record 2 and watch a third

Surely its not record 3 and watch a 4th is it?

Did you have to pay £150 install? thats what I heard it is, and £3 a month extra for the service, that correct?

You can record on 3 tuners and watch something on the On Demand service, a recorded programme or Youtube etc

Yup £150 install, got to keep my V+ and had the V Box upstairs replaced with the V+ for no extra charge.

£3 per month for the TiVo service, no £40 install as I had pre-registered.

New customers its £199 and £40 install, existing customers its £149 and £40 install up till May I beleive.

There is a 500gb version due out soon too.

What was with the quote? ha ha

Anyway, bit pricey for me at the moment. Maybe down the line, it does look a fantastic piece of kit, I pre-registed too, but don't have the funds at the mo.

BTW Virgin Media users, Sky Sports Red Button goes live from tomorrow, but not on Tivo service yet Paul.

Yes there is. Tivo is the most advanced way of watching TV in the UK, If you like Sky plus, you may as well get V+ from Vorgin anyway as you can record 2 things and watch a 3rd, whereas Sky doesn't allow that, only record 2 and watch one of your recordings or record one and channel flick.

The original post by Paul has a link to Tivo at the bottom of it, its mightly impressive, has its own internet connection, you catch stream things like Youtube direct on your TV, and record 3 different channels at once like Paul said, you can also view the TV guide for the forthcoming 2 weeks and record what you like in advance OR go back in time through the last weeks TV and watch what you missed through the TV guide, no catch up tv actually just go back up through the TV guide and pick what you missed.

Plus it has a 1000 gig hard drive, loads of space, it will record other things it thinks you may like by what you have previously recorded and recommend you programmes via the genre of what you what or via actors who have starred in that show. Its a very, very smart piece of kit

When I moved in here I got offered half price sky for a year so it was value for money then but since its went full price its just getting far too much especially with all the sports channels so if VM can give us a good deal to move everything over I may consider. Does VM have the sky sports hd channels?

It does look an impressive piece of kit and that's with sky + being excellent aswell.

I would never pay for sky again, nor would I use an "alternative". freesat HD, with series link, searchable epg with wishlists, everything you get with these services (without 100 shite channels) for nowt.

what exactly is the selling point of being able to record 3 things at once? I struggle to find one thing worth taping PER DAY.

Virgin can f**k off. Useless low quality shite, supplied with the worst service I've ever come across.

Sky are w*nkers but the HD is infinitely better quality and you get pretty much everything. And I always get it at half price because I tell them that I'm going to leave when my contract's up.

f**king hate Virgin. Cheap tacky shit.

Never ever had a problem with Virgin. In fact Id say their service is superb and Ive never felt their products tacky or cheap or the quality of TV or Broadband low.

Obviously I don't speak for everyone but for me whenever Ive had a problem they sort it ASAP and for free.

When I used to live in high rise flats, some kids cut the wires, they came the next day and fixed it, when my modem packed in they came straight away and swapped it, and my moms digital box they replaced straight away too.

What happened with you, where you've had bad service just wondering?

Here we go:

- They gave me two HD boxes instead of one and a normal+ box for extra cash and then didn't switch the HD channels on because ''they didn't have the capability''. So I got my extra cash back when in fact I only went with them because they could provide this service and Sky couldn't.

- They over charged me over a 5 month period and I had to get them to send me their print out so that I could highlight the errors for them and send it back for their information. It was for over £200. I had to do this twice because they lost the first one.

- They made several errors in sending out the wrong information and lost records of information I gave them over the phone.

- Seven phone calls took over 3 hours in total

- Their equipment endlessely froze, and the box I still have downstairs still does on the rare occasions that I use it.

- The internet connection (the top bollocks) keeps going down for hours on end, which has cost me money in late deadline fines. It keeps f**king my computer up too and is extremely slow.

- They offered me a deal to upgrade to the top bollocks broadband and then added an installation charge of £50 (cheeky) and then told me that it was on a seperate 12 month contract to the rest of my set up and would cost £150 to opt out early. Though I didn't sign, the letter they sent out to me confirming these details which never past my front door was binding because if you don't reply in 21 days it's taken as good-to-go. Helps if you get one, eh.

- The HD channels are limited.

- The picture quality of the HD is far inferior to Sky, by miles and miles.

- There's no 3D

- The box is ugly and heavy

- Their bills are a major headache to work out even when they get it right

I could go on.....

    • f**king horrendous and seems they couldn’t run an egg and spoon race.  zero info and the crush waiting to get in to see Massive Attack was potentially disasterous. Zero info, no stewards at all and was told that the whole evening was cancelled, when we got to the exit. Because it rained. First time attendee and i’ve got onsay, i’m far from impressed. Scalping bastard taxis asking €37 plus for an €11 fare too. Wonderdul.
    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
