Stereophonics

Somewhat unrelated but it just occurred to me that they would of been a much better last minute 3rd headliner for Download than Def Leppard. Kinda fit in with classic headliner vibe, although they aren't true bona fide headliners anymore they have headline festivals before and Download have had much, much weaker headliners and I still see their vids on Kerrang sometimes.

REALLY?? stereophonics are still an arena band you no, there far to big to do the n.m.e. they have more right to headline than mcr, they wont of course because there not as current. there in the same leauge as pulp were they could share/sub headline.

in my humble opinion i think they could easily pull off subbing, but then again i think the same about feeder and manics, based on the fact that they have a shit load of hits that would go down a storm with almost any crowd. sadly, however, they're irrelevant and unlikely to get such a spot. if they did play i reckon they'd play 3rd main.

if people say 'stereophonics aren't r/l material, they're v material' (which is what was spouted in a thread a month or so back) then i hate to think what those people would say about phonics as a download headliner...my opinion is that they could please any crowd at any festival with a hit-filled set on a sunny day, at the top of bottom of the line up.

thats what im saying, you couldn't see them in the tent nor the phonic. the phonics are more current i could of easy seen them sub in sted of 30stm wow thats a poor booking haha plus the national 3ed o dear either spot they could of done with pure class.

I'm not sure, Feeder have headline before and Stereophonics aren't a R&L band because they are very much and band living on the past glories not becuase of their sound the same way Def Leppard or Aerosmith wouldn't headline R&L, they've headline R&L before I think(?). I'm just saying the reaction would of been much better for the 'phonics instead of Def Leppard if they were announced last month.

I would say a lot of R/L bands are living on their past glories. Feeder, Manics... Just looking at this year: The Offspring, Jimmy Eat World, Madness... All bands that, if we're being honest, the majority of the crowd just wants to see their hits, and 2% of the crowd would have heard their new stuff, much like Stereophonics would be.

No way would stereophonics be booked as 4th headliners, the same position as jimmy eat world and friendly fires. They are a band who have sold multiple amount of records as those 2 bands combined. The last album is the only real flop they have had and they have had a number 1 album in the last 4 years. They would definitely be in an equivalent slot to the opffspring and possibly 1 higher.

They could probably get away with the nme tent headlining but not a chance they would sub the tent.

I think they would go down really well, however the fact that their core fanbase is 30+ may put people off.

There's no way they'd sub R&L.

R&L wouldn't put them as high up as other festivals would and I doubt they'd want to play lower slots when they could play higher at other festivals. Same as why bands like the Kooks are always more likely to play other festivals.

I think they arent booked because the organiser just dont like them. There are other bands aimed at older people booked. I disagree they would play significantly lower at r and leeds compared to other festivals. They generally arent headlining festivals so they would only play one slot lower at the most.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
