Video on Reading website

Look at this video if you haven't already:

I know they have said a number of times that Pulp are co-headlining with MCR, but why didn't they just make them headline on a different day, get elbow to sub them and get the people on the MCR day to move down a slot and get MCR to sub Muse. Everyone I've spoken to about the lineup since its announcement has been bemused at why MCR are headlining and if they do what I've suggested they would have created a much more credible lineup. This videa shows Pulp before MCR anyway so they obviously thought Pulp would get a better reaction. Obviously that would create problems with exclusivity but at present Pulp will be headlining Leeds anyway so they seem to have already made that mistake (I personally wouln't have minded about exclusivity if it meant giving pulp a headline spot). That obviously creates problems with who would sub strokes, but I'm sure Benn would have found someone.

Come on, this would have looked a much better lineup, right?

MUSE

MCR

Stokes

? (maybe Mumford?)

Pulp

Elbow

oh well, it's obviously too late now but would've been good in my opinion. Reading have seemed to miss out on a treat there if you ask me.

Why does everyone care so much about positioning?

That's what I'm struggling to get my head around, what difference would MCR getting 15 minutes less, just buckle down and accept they're headlining.

Agree with Clemo, i was saying i would never buy a ticket if MCR headlined.. but i've always wanted to see some of the bands on there, which i'll probably never be able to see again, either way i think they've got quite a strong line up (not just headliners) but thats my opinion, i know alot of people will disagree, also if you think about it.. you put MCR under MUSE no way would offspring play 4th.. meaning your making the line up better but losing out on a few epic bands.. so its not really a 'treat' if you ask me

If the positioning was altered like this they would sell their tickets quicker. I think a lot of people just look at the headliners when deciding if they should go or not

I know me, and everyone else I know only look at the three headliners. I don't want to waste my time reading all those band names, so we just look at the three at the top and decide to go or not.

So instead of a thread about the video on the website its another f**king thread about someone complaining about the lineup.

Christ will people give it up, this is the line up either buy or ticket or dont but quit starting a thread up every 10 minutes moaning about it

I think to most people here it would make sense to have Pulp/Strokes/Muse headlining instead of MCR/Strokes/Muse but as it's pointed out many times the people here aren't exactly representative of either the festivals demographic or the demographic that FR is aiming for. I believe that one of the selling points for FR of putting MCR headlining is their somewhat specific (ie younger) fanbase and the fact that they want to attract a new generation of festival goers as well as been seen to be pushing newer bands to headline status and giving them a shot that other festivals wouldn't.

why thank-you! (not entirely sure if that was sarcasm or not but i don't care!)

to be honest, like someone else said it would make the look of the lineup a lot more appealing in my opinion and hence improve ticket sales. i accepted that mcr would headline a long time ago, but was just making this comment in relation to the order of the bands appearing on the video on the website. surely if the three headliners as quoted about a few months ago were 'staggeringly good' then surely mcr should have been more hyped about by festival republic than pulp. it seems to me that making them co-headliner and last act at leeds is just a panic move by fr after reading all the bad comments about mcr headlining.

pulp wasnt a last minute thing :L ... theyre being pushed up to end the festival at leeds because its the last ever uk gig they are going to do... not because the headliners looks bad... if anything strokes would look better then pulp at top but thats not the case.

Leeds won't be Pulp's last ever gig, they're playing Electric Picnic about a week later. I'd imagine an arena tour will be announced for the winter, probably finishing in Sheffield.
