Did Hammond forget how to write riffs for this?

It's horribly underwhelming, I was quite looking forward to this but it just sounds like every other guitar based indie band. There's no 'rock n roll' vibe about it, which was the only thing they did very well. I wasn't expecting another Room on Fire, but an Is This It? would've sufficed. As somebody else has said, it's just First Impressions style dull.

Under the Cover of Darkness really should not be the most memorable song on an album, it's basically an ITI b-side.

Machu Picchu and Gratisfaction are pretty good.

No, Room on Fire is by far the better record, Is This It just has a few more memorable songs but isn't as good as a body of work.

I didn't get wrapped up on the cosmic levels of hype when ITI came out, what may have something to do with it.

In my eyes it goes Is This It?, First Impressions of Earth then Room on Fire. I realise I'm in the vast minority in preferring First Impressions to Room on Fire but I guess it's cos First Impressions was the first album of theirs I listened to heavily.

Just listened to it.

I wouldn't say as bad, it's just not consistent.

It has all its good moments at the start, and drops at the end, and then when you're expecting it to pick up again, it ends

I like:

Under Cover Of Darkness

You're So Right

Taken For A Fool

Gratisfaction.

The main things with the record are it sounds VERY badly produced. The drums sound awful in places, and you can tell they've not played live, which makes it sound very false. Life Is Simple In The Moonlight could be a very good song, but they've butchered it, with regard to the editing of the drums, and the general editing.

Not as good as Is This It? but its better moments are on par with the other two.

I've had a couple of listens now.

On first listen I really like Machu Picchu and Undercover of Darkness (which already liked), but then felt the album drifted off a bit and nothing else really stuck out.

Listened again yesterday and it really grew on me.

I'll be giving it a fair few blasts, as didn't really like Julian Casablancas album on first few listens, but it really grew on me and one of my favourite albums last year (but had to be missed at Glastonbury for Stevie Wonder).

definitely a 'grower' album, a few listens later and I'm enjoying it!

I prefer the live version of 'Life is simple in the moonlight' than the album version - I imagine most of them will be like this, potential to be amazing just slightly tarnished by the editing/producing

Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks Room on Fire is miles better than Is This It?, ITI is just so weak I find, Room on Fire has balls and a sort of steel about and it's wall-to-wall great track after great track, I see ITI as more of a look at us poser album that was very much over-hyped and then the rest of their work overlooked as a result.
